Got A PC Gamer In the Mail Today...Don't Know Why
I was wondering if this happened to anyone else. I went to check the mail today and lo and behold, the latest issue of PC Gamer was there. I don't subscribe to PC Gamer and haven't in many years. I checked my credit cards and I wasn't charged for this either. I went to their customer service web site and sure enough, I have an account there with a fully paid up year's subscription. I tried e-mailing them but their form is broken and won't send. After GFW closed down, Ziff-Davis said that everyone would be converted over to EGM subscriptions to which I promptly wrote back and told them wasn't acceptable cause I can't stand EGM. They said I could cancel but that I wouldn't get credited back the difference which I also said was acceptable. I was told they'd "look into it" and haven't heard anything since. Are there any former GFW readers on here who had this happen to them? I can't imagine another reason why I'd get a free year of a competing magazine. Thanks!

Read the letter insert in the back, Kristin Salvatore explains it all.

Explains it all, and makes me sad all over again.
Yes, that smiley was redundant, but I needed to put it there. Bite me.

I see no such letter. I've skimmed the whole thing and I don't see anything except her front page editorial which doesn't talk about this. I seem to be missing this. What happened then?

Basically, if you were subscribed to GFW, you will get PC Gamer now unless you want a refund, which they'll send you if you ask.
It's pretty cool. I don't like PCG's reviewing style much, but I like their features in the back.

Yeah, I've been looking through this and I really like it. I stopped subscribing years ago because I couldn't stand how "The Vede" ran the mag. He ran it in much the same way that EGM is run which is why I can't stand it either. I definitely think I'll hang onto this subscription.

My copy arrived today too & I was wondering if I'd subscribed without knowing it. I'd just given up on getting anything out of the remaining months of my GFW sub, so this is a nice surprise. No idea if it was a PCG or GFW idea, but it's a nice move for everyone. Now if PCG doesn't pick up a whole bunch of subscribers, they've only got themselves to blame...

I don't think I'll renew the subscription when it runs out, though. GFW was really the only gaming magazine I ever enjoyed reading. I might have to check out Edge or something...

I got a PC Gamer in the mail, as well. Not the magazine...

A few years back I mysteriously got a bill for PC Gamer, despite the fact I never subscribed nor had received any issues. When I refused to pay, after several frustrating and pointless calls, they hired a debt collection agency to send me threatening letters.
Same for me. I really see very little in PC Gamer that makes me want to read it over the many options similar to be found on the internet.
