So what movie is that from, I immediately thought the first Indiana jones movie, but I can't relate that to Firefly in any way shapr or form...

First Indiana Jones... it's related to Kaos Theory's statement, "You have chosen wisely." Which is a quote from the end of Indiana Jones 3: The Last Crusade. Someone in that movie also chose unwisely, and melted/disintegrated.

Dude. It makes sense to me.

Now I have a copy again.

Thanks to the enabler crew, I'm down $28. Serenity was on sale for $9.99.

I've never seen the series either but I'm waiting for bluray. If I love it, I'll buy it on bluray anyway and if I hate it, well, I can always give to a friend or something.

I already have that set, or I'd be ordering it. I've also got both the Serenity releases on regular DVD and the HD-DVD. And I fully expect to cave and buy the blu-ray set of the show when it releases too, new special features or not.

I'd post the consumer whore pic if it hadn't already been used.

I bought it on sale a while back based solely on the review James Lileks (the Gallery of Regrettable Food guy) gave it in his weblog. Watched two episodes, then immediately went out and bought Serenity.

(I must admit, however, that I don't really like the episodes on the fourth disc. They feel like the network was pressuring Whedon to make the show into something it wasn't intended to be, and the show suffers for it.)

A month or so later, they came out with the deluxe edition of the movie, which includes the R. Tam sessions, but I can't justify buying the same movie twice. (The only exception is that I have something like three different editions of Army of Darkness because one version didn't have the ending I liked, and another version is not a very good video transfer-- the gamma is too low)

What's the opposite of a consumer whore?

September. But it was an older TV series. The odds of it being any better on bluray are slim, considering I would bet money it wasn't filmed using HD cameras (or even digital).

Wow. Different strokes I guess. The last disc contains three of my absolute favorites, beaten only by "Out Of Gas."

Even if they had to transfer Firefly from film it would still look amazing in Blueray. Firefly was not that old I am sure the master they have is in excellent shape.

For the most part the BR should look pretty good since the show was shot on film, however one item of note is the ship fx were only rendered in 480i (maybe 480p) for the original broadcast. So I don't know how they're going to handle that.

Actually old films stand to gain more from a transfer to a high def format than a film actually shot in HD with HD cameras. The misconception that older stuff shot on film is some low resolution is really common but also extremely wrong.

Try looking up some reviews or impressions of the HD-DVD version of Casablanca sometime. For a while it was one of the most impressive and striking HD transfers out there, especially when combined with the overall quality of the restoration work done on the film itself.

If the studio involved is going to do the work right a movie shot on regular film should actually end up looking better than most movies we've seen so far that were shot digitally.
