Ahoy, GWJers! Would any of you care to make some recommendations for me based upon the title of the thread? I have exhausted my gaming supply and am now seeking new games.

None, really! So feel free to suggest a multitude of adventure games to me.

Pychonauts is the first game that came to mind though it is a bit of a platformer.

Obviously, there's the Sam & Max series from Telltale. I also suggest taking a look at the Ankh games. Jack Keane isn't too shabby either from what I've heard.

Puzzle Quest falls into that category, I'd argue.

From that list, I've played The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Indigo Prophecy to the end. All worth playing...
May want to add Syberia 2 to the list too.

I heard good things about Broken Sword 3.

Don't forget Curse of Monkey Island series for good laugh.

Beyond Good and Evil is highly recommended too.

About Indigo Prohphecy, I heard that the quality of the game suffer greatly after the first chapter.

I've been playing a recently released freeware point-and-click style adventure game called Ben There, Dan That. It's filled with gamer-humor, nerdspeak, and the puzzles are fun in a not-too-challenging way. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the Lucasarts games.

Here's a few low/medium budget supernatural games...

Scratches - "Myst view" style haunted house story, pretty good game and I'm not a huge fan of myst-type games. Make sure to get the "New Directors Cut" version if you do.

The Lost Crown - (This time a haunted village). Traditional 3rd person point n' click, kind-of based on 'real' ghost hunting methods. Absolutely TERRIBLE voice acting from the main character ('acted' by the games creator who...pauses in the most unusual....places when reading his dialog) but if you can get past that, not a bad game so far.

Penumbra - Black Plague - Havent had a chance to play it properly yet. FPS/Adventure game (no combat, only sneaking and adventure puzzles, some physics based). Supposed to be really good.

Darkness Within : In Pursiot of Loath Nolder - Another Myst-style game that's also pretty good. Got a sort of "Cthulhu Mythos vibe to it.

Oh and Yahtzee has made a few good adventure games - havent had a chance to play them but they're free and you can grab 'em from his website.

It isn't so much that the quality of the game suffers so much as the story goes batsh*t crazy and doesn't even try to make any sense whatsoever...

No votes for Obsidian yet? Classic adventure gameplay, original puzzles, and an environment even more surreal than Myst! What's not to love?!

Damn, now I want to play it again. Wonder if I still have the CD...

Play this guy's games, especially The Shivah. They're throwbacks to old Lucasarts style graphics, but they're really good.

JoWood has an adventure anniversary pack that comes with five games. Don't know about the other three, but Secret File: Tunguska and Nibiru were both decent enough.

A while ago, I finished both Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened and Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin in the span of a week. I highly recommend them both. The first is a nice blend between adventure and horror, and manages to creep me out even with rudimentary graphics (In cases like this, I wish more talents can be poured into a typical adventure game.). The second is a far more relaxed experience, with classical music constantly playing in the background, but still has an interesting enough story.

The Broken Sword series has been consistently excellent. You may need to take some time to look for 1 and 2, but they are worth the effort. Many people say 3 does not compare to the first two. I'm no judge for quality, but if it's good enough to keep me going until the end, it's good enough. It definitely has its moments. I've also heard about a 4th one floating around. Anyone tried that?

Yup, the fourth broken sword game (Broken Sword : Angel of Death) is back to more of a traditional point n' click as per the first two (PC only if i recall). It's yet another game I need to get back to and finish but from what I played it was pretty good.

Sorry, Burton, but I thought Overlord was a terrible game.

I liked Overlord (save the many annoying bugs) It's much better if you use a 360 controller to play it, which means if you don't already have a corded one to hook into your PC, the game adds up to about $70-$80 if you wish to have fun.

Cavestory is excellent (maybe not exactly an adventure game, but close) ((freeware))

I back up Wizkid's 'Pychonauts' suggestion. Great gameplay mixed with excellent story telling and good humor (if not a bit twisted) ((the camera can be annoying though)

If you feel like breaking stuff out of frustration try 'I wanna be the Guy' (platformer) ((freeware))

Broken Sword 3 is excellent as are both Runaway games (the latter two are available cheap on Steam). The Experiment is also worth looking into. It has very different play mechanics that not everyone dug but I've been slowly working on it and like it a lot. There's a demo for it as well. The Longest Journey is still my favourite game of all time though and I strongly recommend starting with that.

That game was sort of fun, best point and click adventure game ever. A lot of people didn't like it though.
But 'best point and click adventure game ever' isn't really saying much...

Edit: /facepunchself I take back everything I just said about PaC adventure games, Myst was amazing.

Thanks, guys!

That's actually a great game, and they did an excellent job of capturing the spirit of the movie. I've still got it sitting on my shelf and have never finished it. But I will not start another game!

I will not!

Lol, that is my problem with games too Which is why I love game play videos. Btw, thanks for GWJers that pointed out to me here, there are some really good complete game play vids for the games that you listed. I'd highly recommend the one for Grim Fandango even if you've played it.

You already have it on your list but I just want to say that Sanitarium is an underrated classic that you should play before most of those other games.

You may also want to add Full Throttle, it's a cool and relatively short game. One of Tim Schafer's. And definitely play Grim Fandango, perhaps the best adventure game to date. And Psychonauts, not strictly an adventure game but a must play.
