6 Differences

When I was a kid, my Oma would buy me these Star Wars mini-books with games and trivia inside. I'd visit her house for lunch once a week to watch Days of Our Lives, eat McCain potato patties and mess around with the book. I was pretty good at everything except the dreaded "spot the differences" pages. Unless it was a Wookie with pants in one panel and one without in the other, I was lost. I'd stare at the page until I went cross-eyed, only to have my little brother poke his head over my shoulder and point "there, there, there and ... there."

Thanks to Case, I have a chance to redeem myself with 6 Differences. As you might expect, you get two images side by side and you must find the six differences between the two. A simple concept, but it's made more engaging with a cool, soothing soundtrack and some very artistic, animated scenes representing each puzzle. Whether it's steady traffic whizzing down the highway at night or the stars wheeling overhead, 6 Differences paints a pretty picture.

Pretty damn cool. I suspected it was playing NIN, but I had to finish the deer-dudes before I recognized it.

I could never actually prove it... but it seemed that they were sneaky and changed some things when you found other items. I'd try and say, "ok... I am absolutely sure there is no problem with this lettering", but then when I found a difference later I'd end up saying, "Did I just miss that?"

At least occasionally they did.

This game type can be found on the Phototronic 2000 (or whatever it's called) at bars. That's a completely different type of difficulty.

They did change as you progressed. There's also a very easy cheat, if you were good at those 3D image posters. Take your eyes out of focus and bring the 2 sides together. What's different will have a "flickering" effect. Click away and win. Obviously won't work with the mirror image ones, but lots of them, it does.

it played a couple different songs, all mellow in a rather unnerving way. The song during the crazy deer-riding-the-subway level sounded a lot like the intro track to "Demon Days" by the Gorillaz. Or at least they used a lot of the same sound effects... Was there any music credits in the end? Iwasn't paying too much attention-- I was too busy trying to see if there were any differences in the "End" screen

Well that was a surreal experience. I love games like this, that you can pick up and finish in half an hour, a feel something afterward. I'm not entirely sure what that something is, but it's there.

I think I felt that. It was a feeling of: Wait, that was a half hour already?!

Are you playing the erotic version in bars? That can be distracting.

Whew beat the thing in about 10-15 minutes. My head hurts.

Well I beat it in 9 to 13 minutes. Aced it. Much better than you, you'll notice, Mordiceius. It's not the cool game content that's so important as much as my showing I'm more "precocious" than yourself. Which I am, natch.

Nice music too, what I noticed as I BLAZED along.

At my school's university center we had one of those touch screen video slot/poker machines that you'd normally find at one end of a pub. It had this game on there as well, except you could choose to "spot the differences" in subtly altered softcore porno. The best parts were the sounds that the ladies made whenever you touched the screen to correctly identify a difference. You'd be surprised at how much fun was had and how far half a dozen college students could go on two quarters.

In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx

I play a similar game on X-Woods called Differences. In Differences, they photoshop pictures and change a few elements between them. It might be mildly NSFW, because some of the pictures are of bikini models, and occasionally nude paintings (Picasso and the like).
