A Movie that was Never Released. Or was it?
Please forgive the long post.
I know this sounds crazy but I have to ask if anyone knows if a movie was released that I saw previews to in 2002.
I saw previews to a movie that appeared to be like the modern day Transformer movie. On or about September/October 2002 I saw previews to a movie about aliens that were making deals with someone or a group in the American government. The aliens appear to us in these previews as machines. The preview I remember was that of an alien posing as an Air liner, such as a 707, hovering over a fancy fishing pier communicating with some men in nice suits apparently US government people. There were good and bad Aliens and the bad talked to some group in the government and the good talked to some others Americans, as best I could tell. The name WAS NOT “Transformers” or anything like it. That much I remember.
At the same time previews for a movie called “The Core” which was to release on 15 Nov 02 was playing in the same theater. I was looking forward to seeing it. I remember the poster and it was in the window of the movie theater and about one week before the release of the movie that poster was removed and 15 Nov 02 came and went without the release of “The Core”. I asked the manager about it and he said that the movie “The Core” was recalled or something and would be released in the spring of 2003. Since the previews were showing for both those movies at about the same time I assumed the Alien movie was recalled too.
I never saw or heard of that Alien movie again. Years later the Movie we know as “Transformers” was released. It looked nothing like what I saw previews to.
Do any of you all know what the name was of that Alien movie and what happened to it? ![]()

The Returner?

The only evil airplane movies I can think of from the past 10 years are Stealth (which is definitely not an airliner, but some fake 'not much of a dogfighter' military jet) and Transformers (which you've already eliminated).
Kurrelgyre nailed it. Returner ended up getting a small run that was mostly indie theaters and hole-in-the-wall AMCs & whatnot.
It wasn't a bad movie, just didn't have the muscle that the studio would have liked.
"Personally I'm looking forward to buying a PC with a 128 core processor integrated with 32tb of memory in about 10 years time. Shortly there after Will Wright's Spore 3 will become self aware and annihilate humanity in a nuclear holocaust."
Well it looks like a Japanese film. Almost zero non-English films get a theatrical release in America, to say nothing of actually doing well.
And it looks awesome! I'll have to try to track it down. Thanks, you guys!

If it is indeed "The Returner" that we are talking about here, then I have seen it. The action is pretty good and there are a lot of cool ideas in the movie
Unfortunately, the transforming airplane didn't make that many appearances
.
The plot is kinda cheesy in my opinion though. And the English dubbing certainly didn't help with the cheesy factor. Though it has a interesting "twist" in the movie that I thought was pretty well done.

I saw it. Damn decent movie. But it suffers from the asian pretty boy syndrome.

Kurrelgyre,
THANKS!!!!! You nailed it!! The last part of that trailer was the scene I remember with what looks like a 727 turning into the alien. I thought I would never see that movie ever!
But I must confess it was an Oil Derek not a pier that the plane/alien hovered over. My memory is that bad!
Thanks for finding it. I was living in Hawaii and a lot of Japanese films and anime shows are shown there that can not be found on the Mainland for years if at all. It was an AMC theater too if memory still serves.
My girls, who loved Gundam Wing, had the last season on DVD before I ever saw it shown here in the Mainland at all. My Girls still go by those Gundam Wing nicknames to this day, Heero and Quatre.

Cereal in beer?
And breakfast for "last night?"

Extremely well played. Possibly my favourite thing to happen here.
