KOTOR MMO confirmed...
I guess this will make a lot of people happy, unfortunately I am not into the Star Wars universe ![]()
It’s been rumoured for ages, but E3 saw EA’s John Riccitiello drop a conclusive bombshell. Quote’n'that under the jump.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I’d better be able to play as a Jawa.
“We’ve got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development,” said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. “And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it.”
Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? “Yes,” he said.

Yeah, but if you set off the bomb in Megaton you are rewarded with a parking lot!

The Old Republic era is the part of Star Wars I find most interesting (I like the art style better in particular) but I'm not very interested in any of Star Wars, certainly not in MMO form.
It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up against Galaxies.

I ditto Kuddles.
If they do make a KOTOR mmo, there's certainly potential for it to rock, but I'm really dubious on it.
I'll take that bet.

No! I don't need to lose another 2+ years of my life to an MMO.

A Star Wars MMO....can't believe anyone hasn't thought of that before 0_0
Seriously though...I'd much prefer they stuck to making Kotor3 instead.
Or possibly...finishing Kotor2 first?
I nearly cried when I finished it....I spent the time thinking
"what happened to....."
"what's that all about ?"
"have i missed something ?"

Guess what? That dude isn't going to get to play as a jawa.

OMG, wrong forum.
I could see this being a pretty good base for an MMO, if they did it correctly. They have alot of freedom in terms of IP (in terms of story and era), so if the actually mmo gameplay turns out to be reasonable, then who knows...
There's a something awful "lets play.." thread for Kotor2 that's actually REALLY interesting as it covers many of the "deleted scenes" from the game (and gives a pretty intelligent overview of the whole story...which was apparently a lot more complex and satisfying that I realised when I played through it...)
It's a screenshot-based walkthrough so it's REALLY FREAKIN' LONG but quite entertaining/informative.

I'll believe it when I see screenshots.

Not to be a negative nancy, but I just shrug my shoulders at any MMO announcements right now. Great developer, but it's a crap genre to get into unless you have high fantasy elves or rhyme with gizzard. It should be interesting to see this as a second shot (?) at the Star Wars Universe as an MMO though.

Yeah I am all ready to get pumped up about this, once there is some solid evidence.

That is just pure win right there.

It's sad that my first reaction is to be cosmically underwhelmed.
Unless they have a wildly radical, new way of running an MMO then I fully expect there to be problems with at least two of the following (possibly more):
- Economy
- Class imbalance in PVE
- Class imbalance in PVP
- "Endgame" content
- Server Stability
- Cheating
- Monotony/Grinding/Leveling/Variety of Gameplay
Variable -> Veeble -> vbl
"Nice boys, guys." - Swampy
Guess that's $15 more dollars a month Bioware will not be getting from me, or maybe in their first foray into the MMORPG realm, they'll come up with a subscription model that does not have the people playing 1-2 hours a week subsidizing those that play 90 hours a week.
Much as I like the Old Republic setting, and I loved both KotOR games, and I think there's a lot of potential for playing around with jedi classes and a craftable lightsaber system...
...I've got a bad feeling about this.

Over all SWG hasn't been an epic fail. They truly tried, but it's 5 years old now and still kicking and a lot of fun. With KOTOR everyones a jedi so that's a win and the stories available during that time line can be pretty rich. I'm excited so far.

The epic fail was not directed toward SWG, it was directed toward missing the sarcasm of the original post.

I love MMOs, I loved KOTOR, I love Bioware and I'm enjoying SWG. I'm excited!

If they learn all the lessons of a epic star wars fail, galaxies (rip) then this could be amazing, if they don't take heed, it will be like the bastard child Leia and Luke had before they found out they were related. Retarded.
Having said all that, I'd ten thousand times prefer something based on KOTOR than anything to do with Diablo III.

That was more in regards to what Lobster wrote. I think Stevenmack was being sarcastic when he said there hasn't been a Star Wars MMO.
