Help requested: Center for Video Games and Human Values grant proposal
You may remember me talking about the center before. I'm happy to say that it's now a fast-approaching reality, and getting cooler by the day, abetted very strongly by some very helpful Goodjers already.
Now I'm in the process of writing a grant proposal for the National Endowment for the Humanities, to make the shining virtual community of my classical dreams happen, and I'd love your input. Specifically, I need to try to identify anybody who's doing anything similar, in any way. I know about a few things, like the bigger game studies programs (GA Tech and USC for example) and conferences like GLS, but I'm sure there are tons and tons of things that I don't know about. One of the ideas for the grant is that CVGHV serve as a way to connect disparate efforts and foster, yes, synergies. ![]()
If there's anything that springs to mind, just throw it up here, I beseech you!
I'm also happy to answer any questions. . . (No, I'm not giving out money yet, but someday I may be.)
TIA!

That is a great idea you started there! I don't have any game industry cred, nor can I write to save my life
Though I'd love to help anyway that I can.
I am also curious about those classes. I need to spend some more time digging through your site to figure out how to sign up (if I am even eligible
) and how much it will cost, etc.
Great job and thanks for the heads up!

Thanks, guys! You can't sign up yet, but I'll let everyone here know when you can (probably September or October, for the two week course in January).

Bump--sorry--I just really need the help in identifying the kinds of things that are going on that might be related. Thanks for your patience.

I don't think I can really help, but let me know if there's anything I can do.

Thanks, Wordsmythe! If you want to be involved in the initial stages of the community, shoot me a PM with your e-mail, and I'll invite you to the first version, on Classroom 2.0. (That goes for any other interested, Goodjer, too!)

I'm sure you know these, but here they are:

The Project Wonderland SIG mentions several education collaborations

Have fun!
Extremism in the defense of liberty *is* a vice. It has been since the first Crown Loyalist was tarred, feathered and set afire, and it's no better now. It corrupts first the individual, then ultimately the institution it defends.
That's quite interesting. I have a passion for Ancient History (and gaming) and I'm doing a PhD in Geoarchaeology in Europe. If there is anything I can help, don't esitate.
If you get Jeff Green to be one of those guests I am in.

Thanks, guys. Jeff Green is definitely one of the people I'd want to get as a visiting symposiast! I think those discussions are going to be absolutely amazing, and all of GWJ is going to be on the invite list.

Here's an undergrad major program on culture and computer games/art/media: Animate Arts Program at Northwestern
Course #302, culture and connectivity, seems especially relevant.
Hope this is useful.
