Rohan Blood Feud - Best of the Free MMO's
Check it out yourself but my initial impressions are very high.
Yes, of course the most notable comparison would be to Lineage 2. The art style is less exaggerated than L2 yet well crafted.
The info details are loose which is why it doesn't garner buzz or press. Of course another reason may be that its amongst the dozens of these free MMO clones.
The PvP starts at level 50. There are city or outpost wars where the winning guild gets to have their colors flown all over the city and can take a percentage tax from all business in the city for a week. I'm not really excited about that but it seems to be what they tout about the game despite having nice classes and a decent pve system.
The good stuff is that the combat is fun and the characters play really well. I would put Rohan up against LotRO to show the disparity between excellent and hacked together combat timings and combat. Sure I'm going to get a lot of flack for that but when the build up climax and crescendo of combat maneuvers works so well the monster grind starts to melt away.
Combat is auto-attack centric with the layering of special abilities over the top. The auto attack is exceptional for the 4 classes I've tried. Most of the classes (races) have quicker and slower weapons. The slower weapon really feel like they have a punch. The quicker weapons have more variety in their auto-attacks by mixing in jabs, double swings and kicks.
A typical auto-attack sequence would go: power attack, kick, power attack, double attack, jab, kick, power attack, double attack, kick...
This is further broken up by getting a couple of crits (~20% damage bonus) per fight which would shake the camera.
Definitely do the tutorial area. Its a little rough around the edges but you get used to it quickly. And you can level up to 7-10 in about 25 minutes in the tutorial area. This tutorial area gives you a nice intial leveling boost which so far has prevented the monster grind from setting in. The quests seem pretty sparse so the tutorial is a significant improvement over other free MMO's that grind you down by level 8-12.
Interesting Features:
Level refinement - lower level requirements on equipment for a price and a moderate chance to fail
Stats refinement - lower stat requirements instead of level requirements
Forging - combine 2 lower level items into a more powerful item

Sounds good, I'll check it out in the morning
Is it cash shop supported? I've always liked the idea of free-to-play MMOs with a cash shop, but other than Kingdom of Loathing, none have kept me interested long enough to actually buy anything.

Yeah, its cash shop supported. They also have a nifty feature to turn of player models which typically become a blight on city hubs in free mmo's. (player vendor blight)
It won't replace WoW but it will certainly have more legs than 2moons, Shaiya, DOMO, Rappelz, Fury, etc.

I'll check it out after work. I still have the MMORPG itch that Age of Conan didn't scratch.

Okay, I totally forgot about this today, but I've signed up for an account and set the client downloading overnight to play with tommorrow. Looks promising just from the website.

Another neat feature they have is called "Quest Alarm". It basically tells you what quests are available around your level and where to pick them up.

So which server are we on?

I played this for a few hours last night. It was pretty okay. Liked the graphics and the feel, don't think there are enough quests and those that exist are too grindy (lol, I know we're talking about an eastern MMO, just had to put that out there).
Anyway far ahead of Requiem so far as I'm concerned. Let me know what server everyone else is on, I joined the one starts with an 'M' but I could switch.

Edit: I HATE elves.

Well you have half elves, elves and dark elves. And there is the Dekan that looks sorta like a sea elf.
I have some characters on the "M" server. Djori and Ajari.
I highly recommend the Dark Elf (caster). The Dekan is really sweet with a double bladed staff that you can split into 2 blades. If you like the Assassin or Sun Chiang Xian from Dynasty Warriors, you will like the Dhan race.

I'm looking at 8 or 9 hours right now, so I'll just let this download overnight. I really want to try this out, looks like a lot of fun, and it brings a couple of interesting features to gameplay, such as the revenge option.

Does it work in Vista?

I have a character on the "M" server also. Let's get a guild going there.
BHA: Lyonroar, Mundor, Slycke
Server: Marea
Characters: Morgawse and Fomorian, so far.

It's ok. I've made a few different characters (now on Marea) to get a feel for each, and so far I'm doing best with Veloreyn (Half Elf Archer) and Syllanna (Elf Healer).
So far I only have two big gripes...
The first is that the system I'm currently running doesn't play this game very well. It's around the minimum requirements though, so it's more an issue on my end than theirs.
The second is sound effects. I'm spoiled by games that give me some little sound effect on every strike/spell/etc, and I'm not sure if it's just a glitch, but this game seems to have overlooked it, at least at this point in time. Hopefully it's just an issue with the game being in beta, and it's something they're still working on.
Other than those things, it's a visually impressive game for being cash shop operated, it's got some interesting systems going for it, and I actually like the way they did their skill system (even if it is complicated). And I really like the forging and refining systems.
Most of my time lately's been spent working, or looking for a better job, but hopefully I can catch a few of you online sometime.
Dabbling in most F2P MMO's as Veloreyn.
Is there anything you can do to influence the success / failure rate of refining? I like being able to do that with my gear but I'm always afraid it won't work and the level requirement will go up instead of down.
Garth Marenghi wrote:
I think the key is that its refinement and not uber twinking.
If you want to knock it down 2-3 levels then use the 2 or 3 level refiner slot. The level of the weapon can't go past its original level so just keep plopping money into the slot machine. Odds are that even though a one level refinement will succeed more often, getting two in a row will cost more money than trying to do two levels at once.
You will run out of money quick by trying to lower reqs by 4 or 6 levels. I would bet that you could purchase something from the cash store that would increase your success chance. If not, there should be something soon.
Half elves are great ranged attackers that are sturdier than the dark elf mages. However, I've found that the dark elves add a little more flavor because they have mana and life stealing nukes and AoE. Not that I'd try AoE without grouping as thats a sure way to die quickly.
The elf healers are interesting. I feel though that they get into a habit of nuke, self heal, nuke, self heal which may get repetitive. And also very dangerous since the longer kill times means the better the chance an add or respawn pops next to you.

Big necro-post, but it's along the lines of this game. ijji seems to have adapted their own version of this game (rohan.ijji.com), and while ijji hosts a lot of events for all their games, it seems that I am unable to connect to the server. This error has been mentioned in their forum, and I've personally asked the customer service team about it (to which they said, " It's our first time encountering this error, we'll let you know about a fix when possible."). Does anyone else encounter this issue? Can anyone recommend playRohan over ijjiRohan? Any fixes on the ijjiRohan [998878c] issue? Any recommended servers? Please tell me.
And, sorry for the necro-post.
You know I haven't had this problem with Rohan. However, I did have lots of problems trying to run Sword of the New World with their anti hack loader. I emailed the devs and basically its one of the drawbacks of playing a free MMO. If millions of players are having no problems, you will get a "we are aware of the issue and we are working on it" non-committal response.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
That's weird. Which version of Rohan are you playing? Also, does that company offer lots of updates and events?
I'm sorry that was not for Rohan. I played the non ijji Rohan and had no problems with it.
The problems I had were for another free MMO Sword of the New World. (Granato Espada)

EDIT: Interesting game. Wonder if anyone still plays it? Didn't notice the necro until now.
I played it, but somehow the characters look blocky, and a lot like triangles to me, even on max resolution on 32bit. Maybe I'm just unable to find some kind of hidden graphics control.
Might have to do with the versions, or it could just be your graphics card. In any case, I DLd the playRohan version and it works fine, even though I'm running on a PC below minimum specs.
I don't think it's my graphics card...it can handle l4d, so I think it's just the limited customization options. I just hope the community has released a HD pack or something similar.
It is really good.I like it very much.
