Nothing about Tony Snow Yet?

Wow. He died Saturday and I kept waiting to hear what some of our more "vocal" progressives had to say about it.
Guess I will start it off.
I know you are not supposed to speak ill of the dead. Sorry in advance.
It amazes me how some people will find all sorts of nice things to say about people who die that they never really liked much when they were alive. I happen to think that the world becomes a better or worse place when people die depending on how that person behaved while they lived, and the world got slightly better on Saturday.
It got a lot less dishonest, that is for sure.

Harsh.
"If Blizzard announces a subscription fee for Diablo III we will have to build a second Internet to make room for all the complaining." - muttonchop
I don't think we had a Jesse Helms thread either. Debate on this board usually tries to be about an event or an issue, not what we subjectively think about a person, even when they're alive. That line only gets clearer when they die.
"All that time you waste dating and having sex could be better spent scouring the web for new game developer press releases." - Quintin_Stone
Yep we got rid of a liberal doctor and a baseball player, the world sure did get less dishonest that day, too bad Tony Snow had to go too.
"Also, I have four legs and am covered in wool. Baa!" *Legion* reveals his inner furry.
In general, when a public figure dies people don't speak ill of them for the simple reason that they cannot defend themselves. While I understand your point look at it from people who would support, as well as loved, the individual who just died. They would see your criticism as opportunistic and insensitive.
My advice is let it lie as you will have a lifetime to speak your mind and give people time to heal.

Cancer is absolutely horrible and the effects of treatment are destructive by design, even though each step in treatment is a very important one towards the goal of surviving. I am truly sorry to see he wasnt able to beat it. I am sure it has been a very painful period for him and his family physically, emotionally and spiritually. To have gone through his first treatment cycle and have it return must have been devastating, even with a fighter's spirit.
I think the last interview of him I had seen was that one where he broke into very sincere tears as he spoke about his battle with cancer, his family and kids, and the spectre of mortality. I really felt for him, his words spoke to me and I think this very human moment will be the lasting image I have of him.
I am truly sorry for him and his family. He's just like anyone in the simple fact that I am sure he wanted more years to see his family grow up and experience grandchildren, etc etc.
He had a job to do, and although I don't know much about him, he seemed quite a professional. I am sure he is mourned by not only family, but a very wide circle of colleagues and friends.

I happen to disagree. If the person was disreputable in life, then they deserve all the censure they get in life or death.
Guys, attacking someone with slander because they used slander isn't exactly what I'd call the high road. Can it.
This thread is done.
