Podunk Composes Zero Punctuation Theme Song
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 - 9:03pm
This one deserves it's own thread I think.
We unveiled the new ZP theme and intro today, with music composed and performed by GWJ's very own Ian "Podunk" Dorsch.
It is now my favorite piece of music, and Ian is now a big star. Worship him.

Once again, Congrats Podunk

Also, first post.

It sounds great, Podunk - congrats!
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

But I ALREADY worship The Fletch, Yahtzee, AND Podunk to boot. What's left for me to do now?

Awesome song. I've always liked your work, and this song definitely has a classic Ian vibe. Hope it sticks around!

I'm happy for Podunk, but I miss the quirky musical intros Yahtzee used which for the most part coincided with the subject matter.
Regardless of rant its a good piece and I'm happy that he's getting work outside the GWJ podcast.

Good stuff Podunk. Verily it rocks.
Got any toast?
Like so many who have worked with us, I've always known it was just a matter of time til the outside world recognized Podunk's hard-rockin' genius.

Aw, thanks guys.
edit: And I should of course thank Russ both for the opportunity and for acting as producer for the track. He produces like a motherf*cker.

That was quite awesome.
I wonder how long it will take for people to start a Diablo III-style petition to never change anything ever, though. Looking at the comments thread for the new video over there I think that they are about to riot.

Oh yeah, they're going apesh*t over there.

If people thought Yahtzee could keep putting big record label controlled songs in his movies for free, I mean we don't live in a land of fairies and unicorns here. Eventually Zero Punctuation needed it's own music, and it's pretty good to boot.
It is a bit jarring if you're not expecting it though.

Definitely cool, just wish it wasn't so loud compared to the monologue that follows it. Scared the crap out of me at first. That said, I will miss the amusing song choices that were usually some kind of pun to the game being reviewed.

Same here, but I do enjoy the more professional polish of the new intro.

Yeah, I was wondering how long Yathzee was going to get away with that.
Somehow I get the impression the Fletcher's production style is too vary the amount of alcohol you have imbibed until you find that perfect mix.
But he definitely got it right! Rock on, brutha!

Excellent! I'm looking forward to the xylophone version.
I would have known that was Podunk music without the credits. Woo!
Certis beat me to it. - Elysium
Considering the extremely short samplings of each song, and credit given at the end, those usages would definitely fall under fair use. The RIAA being no friend of fair use, it wouldn't surprise me if the escapist was contacted by them.
But, I don't know the situation, maybe Croshaw got sick of finding songs each week, and wanted something simpler. In the end, though, 'tis a boon to our own Ian Dorsch.
I would be disappointed in The Escapist if they bowed to RIAA pressure, though.

I really like the music... but not so much his intro over it... I think part of the appeal of ZP was always the kooky songs he picked to fit with his rants and it reinforced the thought that 'there's a song for every situation in life'. Seeing Lara cartwheeling and stuff at super fast speed was just boring average.
Good work on the music though
