Most Quotable Movie
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 - 11:31am
The Cross the Streams thread sparked the question for me: What is the Most Quotable Movie?
While Ghostbusters is certainly up there, and maybe Army of Darkness, I've _got_ to give the nod to:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
The whole damn movie is just one long awesome quote.
"I think Elysium has the right of it" - Certis

Grail was the very thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.
"It's a fair cop."

"I might have gotten away with it if it wasn't for a damningly tenacious clinger." - Crouton on a childhood excrement escapade
Airplane, methinks, is an amazingly quotable movie.
Grail is good. But I believe the first Austin Powers was ruined for me 1 week after its premier due to the sudden influx of quotes around school. When I finally saw it, nothing was funny because I'd heard everything already.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail -- pick a quote.
Pulp Fiction -- "That's one tasty burger!"
Office Space -- "Looks like somebody has a case of the Mondays"
Army of Darkness -- full of one liners.
Most memorable song stuck to a movie -- Resevoir Dogs. Anytime someone loses an ear to music, well...
Well, Cooking Mama didn't help me become a better cook, and Trauma Center certainly didn't help me become a better surgeon. I have the proof of both sitting in my freezer. -- imbiginjapan
I know it's not one movie, but the original Star Wars Trilogy is oft quoted.

The Big Lebowski. I quote this movie all the time.
"Now witness the awesome lethality of the Alan Parsons Project!"
-Dr. Evil
Blues Brothers and Animal House, are at the top of my list.

Holy Grail is the first one that came to my mind, for sure.
Airplane! is another good one.
I'd add that Terminator is another great quotable.
Idiocracy, while not widely seen, is way up there. "Welcome to costco, I love you" and "I can't believe you like money too. We should hang out" are well ingrained in our workplace vernacular. If you haven't seen it, you really should.

Mex is my hero = "f*ck it, I'll do it. WE'LL DO IT LIVE."
Caddyshack and Swingers have got to be up there, though I've heard (and quoted myself) Swingers bits enough to last me for the next 20 years.
Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy - both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

I agree with Grail, Lebowski and Airplane and I'll add to it Life of Brian, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein. I'll throw in Anchorman as well.

Aliens
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Anchorman
The Big Lebowski
Army of Darkness
Ghostbusters
The Princess Bride
All contenders. As for the winner?
Hmm.
Grail certainly is quotable. But it's a bit played out after all this time. So I'll give the nod to Lebowski.

Full Metal Jacket

"I'd say I was joining the winning team, but that'd imply there existed a time when I wasn't on team evil."
Through different groups of people the movies change though. Big Lebowski, Godfather movies, Airplane, Princess Bride. My vote would be for Silent Movie, but that's just me.

Ghostbusters is my most quoted movie. It is amazing how many times in life Ghostbusters is relevant.
While not a movie, I think Futurama is highly quotable. My wife and I are always using Futurama quotes in our daily lives
Airplane, Holy Grail, Blues Brothers and Princess Bride are all good ones. I would also add Young Frankenstein to the list. Lots of great lines in there that I use pretty regularly. Anytime we mention someone being famous, I always have to say they are "both famous... and infamous."
