This is from a creature I created in the Spore editor... I was aiming for some sort of T-rex but when I gave it a test drive my flatmate pointed out that it had quite an effeminate walk... hence the name (it has pink stripes too) Would EA have considered it vulgar if I had chosen to call it Effeminatasaur? I highly doubt it

I don't even want to imagine the sh*tstorm "homo sapiens sapiens" might cause!
I've heard of a few of these, Kristen Salvatore from PC Gamer got one for her Boobalicious creation. I think EA is taking a hardline because these things are going to be popping up in games played by children, can't blame them really.

There are likely multiple people who's job is to look at Spore creatures and send people emails about them. Just imagine being one of those people ... *shudder*

So "gay" is a bad word? Children shouldn't know there are gay people* walking around? Imagine what could happen, everyone would prance around in pink shorts and oversized sunglasses humming Kylie Minogue and Madonna songs in no time!
* or T-Rexes

I think there's a slightly depressing aspect to the fact that we are given a game allowing the most open-ended character generation allowing the most opportunity for creativity, where your imagination is the only limit, and we all knew without hesitation that at least 90% of the creations would be walking genitals.
I would think the first rule of PR is to ignore forum people, because they vacillate between crazy and liar. - Elysium
I think you'll only really get the profusion of cockmonsters initially. It's sorta taboo, and it's doable - hence, people will do it. Then they'll discover that it's not all that interesting compared to what's possible, and they'll move on.
Like when any popular game introduces a new class, suddenly that class sprouts up like mushrooms. Then the fervour of the new and shiny dies down, and people go back to being as normal as they were before the new stimulus got them all revved up.
Don't you understand, Cliff? We put a chainsaw on a machine gun! That's it! It doesn't get more awesome than that! We've peaked, man! We've peaked! - ctrl-alt-del on Gears of War 2
Could that have been one reason the monster creator part was released so early?
It gives people a chance to get the juvenile stuff out of their systems AND gives EA chance to build up their strategies for keeping tabs on the content, both far in advance of the proper game being released.
Dunno about censoring the word Gay though...he could just be a really happy dinosaur
How long before someone sues EA for homophobia?

Apparently, it is due to Sporn?

Good for EA! This crap must be stopped!
People need to come up with far more subtle & clever names for their titcreatures and cockmonsters.

I can see the objection, especially if they're being very careful. Pink and effeminate are at best loaded, at worst bigoted, references to being gay. It's sort of like making a Little Black Sambo creature and naming it WatermelonEater.
Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is crud.
Badken I think has hit the issue.
I personally think that EA's tough stance is completely unnecessary. If spore's main concept is to allow your universe to be populated by other peoples creations, why enforce rules on what is considered offensive, vulgar or otherwise?. Surely the best option would be to have Client side rules on what content your game uses? Don't get me wrong, I understand the need for censorship for content that people would find offensive/unsuitable but let ME choose what I find offensive!!! To be frank if I were to have discovered the Gayasaurus in my game of spore and someone else had created it, It would have been a great day of gaming
So would you find the Homophobiatile offensive if I suited it up in army green?

Well, here's one game I won't get until I can hack EA out of it.

If the issue is "There's no way EA can enforce any kind of objective standards for 'decency'." then I agree completely.
I do think that if they're going to try, they'd be best off to aim to eliminate obvious vulgarity and obscenities. Going beyond that is a mighty slippery slope...

Honestly, this thread has dropped it off the charts, for me. It now looks like a dumb game for kids to act like fools with.

Spore is all about making YOUR universe... my point is why should MY universe be governed by EA and their thought police? I'm not saying that I wouldn't add filters my own universe to restrict content to what I would like to see... but the choice should be mine.. and yours.. and everyones to make. Hell they could combine it with a parental control system and it would make a really sweet system.. It would certainly remove the need to employ people to monitor content for this thing. Besides... we all know Will Wright's first creature was probably a massive Cockbadger.
Yes and they just choose not to host your "creations".
Its not censorship at all. Did you forget that your entire creature is housed in a tiny png?
Put it up on your website and allow people to use it to their hearts content. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a web hub for these kinds of creations to be gathered and exchanged. Its just not going to be on EA's spore page.
I'm sure there will be all sorts of sites facilitating the creation of your own vulgarverse or porniverse or both!
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
And I have no interest in trying to figure out how filter out the kids and their homophobic, racist, and pornographic creatures.
I may just be clueless, but it never occurred to me that this is what Spore would lead to.

I'm just excited for the term cockmonster and video game to be in the same sentence.
Yar, exactly. There's some incredibly pornographic content for the Sims out there, but it would be naive to expect EA to host those themselves.
Feel free to make all the cockwalruses and f*ckasauruses and vagina weasels and dildodos and testicle leprechauns and lesbian buffalo and oogababoons and sh*tmonkeys and masturbating sloths and scrotum sharks and butthole pterodactyls you want, and you can even share them with your friends and populate your game with them, just don't expect EA to host them for you.
This thread is awesome.

Yes, that's exactly the issue. Given what we've seen of the maturity of teh interwebs, it's probably safe to block this from being used in all sorts of insulting ways. Not that there isn't a way to get around it, but it's a reasonable first-pass filter.
But, it certainly cuts both ways. What if someone's trying to use it in a positive way, eg. GayAndFabulous? They can't do that, either.
I tend not to upload my more offensive creations to the Sporepedia. Those go right on YouTube.
