Since the last S&T fizzled out I thought it was time to take this one by the ears.

I have a yearning for some pen and paper gaming before GenCon and I know that Rocky, E Hunnie, and wordsmyth do as well.

I have a bright shiny new house up in Lindenhurst. Not as palatial as souldaddy's, but it'll do. My wife is out at a bachelorette party on Saturday the 2nd of August so we have the run of the place.

Bring your D&D 4e, some dice, and enough beer and sides to sate you. I'll provide the meat and the liquor. PM me if you are definitely coming and I will reply with my address.

So I'd be DM, eh? Well, I've been part of worse decisions before.

My copy of Shadowfell came in last week, so we can go through that in more earnest, instead of dicking around and almost dying in the second encounter--actually, either way is fun.

I can handle the hike up to Lindenhurst if that means we can pull those SE Wisconsin jerks in. Has anyone heard from them? Might SommerMatt deign to join us?

I doubt I can make it as my girlfriend's birthday is that following Monday.

I must let you all know, I've never actually played D&D. I'm definitely in to playing, but I've never done it. Please be gentle. Do I need to buy a players manual?

*Edit*
My wife would be interested as well, plus she also is a complete n00b in the ways of D&D. Her only concession is if her sister is giving birth.

It is her 21st, so there's a chance it won't get celebrated properly until Monday or even the next weekend. I'll talk to her tomorrow and see what her plans are. I have to dance around the issue anyway because she'd be taken aback by me going to play D&D with a group of strangers I met on the internet.

Yes! I like more female support. I haven't ever played either (well, unless you count me rolling a die and going, "What's that mean?" for about 2 turns at Word's last hosting). It will make it better if she is there. Also, you can tell her that her sister would wait to have a baby if she really appreciated her. That will go over well and make her want to come even more!

I just looked where Lindenhurst is, holy crap that is North. I guess you guys are worth an 1.5 hour drive.

We're not straners Kaos. Rocky and word and I have met before. That just makes you strange And about being a n00b, I'm pretty much in the same boat frankly. It's been over a decade since I rolled a ten-sided die in anger.

I'm excited to meet your wife Rocky. I brought up the idea with mine and there was music in the air. Unfortunately Meatloaf was singing "Anything for love... but I won't do that."

And as for the 1.5 hour drive that's only if you drive like my parents. I've gotten here before in 56 minutes. It's a straight shot up 294. And I've got a comfy sofa and a guest room. With Kaos that makes a part of five...

Over 2 hours for me and that's farther north than Great America. DnD? Roller coasters and water park? Hmmmmmm.

smythe, you're about the halfway point for me. Can I save myself an hour of gas and hop in with you?

I got the player's handbook for $20 on Amazon. Or if you want to play once before buying you can acquire a pdf from certain places of nefarious reputation on the internet. Also, the podcast with Penny Arcade and PvP is helpful and entertaining. It'll probably spoil the adventure, though.

Actually, I've gone ahead and spent the $20 on Amazon myself. So, that is all good. Glad to have you along on the adventure Sir Jazz Hands.

So, when should we start signing up for the side dishes we are bringing?

That makes 6 people plus our illustrious DM. Outstanding.

I've been glued to my iPod listening to all of the Penny Arcade exploits, so take that into account if I could become a walking spoiler.

Also, smythe I'm just now digging into the DMG so I'm happy to try my hand at DMing an encounter or two if you'd like to have you shot on the other side of the screen. Do you need any help planning out the module(s)?

I'll be in San Fran for the rest of the week, but I'll have some times and PMs to you all when I get back. I don't think we're full by any stretch, maybe one or two more PCs would be nice. That'd give me a little time to play host and grill.

Also, has anyone PMed Kolbo? I know I saw him posting in some of the D&D threads. So, he may not be checking out the EE forum. If anyone was coming from the Western burbs, I would be more then happy to give them a lift, but it sounds like everyone is coming up through the city. Oh well.

Colleen and I are planning on bringing baked beans and pasta salad!

I'm here. I just now found this thread. PM would not be a bad idea next time, though. Thanks.Been gone from the forums for the most part for the past 3 weeks outside of the D&D threads due to work and ultimate.

What time we looking to start on August 2nd? Morning, afternoon, evening? I may have to work around my ultimate practice schedule.

Pencil me down as IN. I hope I can get some of the D&D cobwebs out with the online campaigns Wandy and I are playing before we do this.

I have the PHB, but no dice or anything else.

I will gladly bring beer and a side. Baked beans are gross.

I still need to confirm with the girlfriend. I don't think we have any plans for her birthday that weekend, but she may have other plans or objections.

I don't have any 4th Ed stuff. I have my 3rd Ed PHB and some dice (assuming I can track them down), but I don't know how much any of that would help.

SirRockford, I'd be coming from Glendale Heights (~5 minutes from I355 and North Ave) if you'd be interested in commuting.

My wife and I live in the Aurora/Naperville area, so we will be coming by 355, and it looks like according to Google Maps we can go up 355 instead of taking 94 to get to Lindenhurst, instead of 94.

I-94 North of the 90-94 split is terrible. Two lanes either way all the way to the curve way up north.

Avoid I-94, if at all possible.

Just so you know, I've been known to kill characters for playing that song. (I can get moody that way.) Bat out of Hell is generally acceptable.

McChuck wrote:

It'd be great if you could. I've been meaning to get a Battle Mat or something similar to bring.

Dice, miniatures, and pencils will be generally useful. I'll try and remember to print off a few blank character sheets.

Ultimately, that depends on how much we want to get through. I don't expect to finish the module in one meeting anyway.
