No Sumosac makes me a Sad panda. Updated with AWSOME!

Sin Nombre, B*tches
HantaXP's picture

So, just a warning to all of you out there, who are considering ordering a Sumosac. I ordered one a month ago and they still have not shipped it, which I am quite disappointed about. If you need funiture quickly, this might not be your best choice.

Am I being overly critical in this delay? Or is this type of thing usual (not from the specific company but in general)?

Update:

Ok, so, Sumo Lounge has shown its class. The issues that I have had were due to cross border shipping BS with the factory that Sumo ships with. The factory was unprepared for such a large demand and did not have the ability to ship to Canada (This has since been solved).

Now the awsome: the owner has offered to send me an Omni. This was a very generous offer, for a problem that was beyond his control.

Special thanks to rabbit, GWJ and Sumo.

Planning on ordering one, thanks for the heads up.

Did they deduct the money from your account yet? I'd be a little leery if they did, though most places don't draw the money until they ship the item.

I ordered a Christmas gift online from Restoration Hardware about a month before the holiday. After a few subsequent email updates informing me of a back-order delay, I finally got my shipment the following March!

Have you contacted them and asked for an explanation?

When ordering custom furniture, 6-8 weeks or more is common. I wouldn't really include a Sumo in this though.

They have billed me. They also sent me an email (26 days after I ordered), telling me that they were back ordered and would let me know when they would send it.

I am a pretty patient guy, and after Rabbits review, am willling to wait; but I would recommend waiting a while if you were planning on ordering, as 30 days is a bit much. I need a fraking couch/gaming chair.

I just wanted to put a warning to you all, as there is nothing about back order on their website or when they charge you. ill keep you posted on when they send it, but I have been hanging out on a lawn chair for 30 days. I blame Rabbit!!!#@!

Well if you decide to get one then expect a 3 month delay. I guess if you plan for it, it won't be all that bad when it appears for you in 9 weeks because then it's 3 weeks early!

Yea, I just wish I had known. Ive been sitting in a frigging lawn chair to do my gaming. The big "usually ships within 3-5 business days" on thier website is sorta misleading.

Doesn't sound like this is any "sorta" about it, it simply is misleading. And the fact that they already billed you for no services rendered sounds like bad business.

Oh no, if you click on the "usually ships within 3-5 business days" statement, the pop up window says "...for sufficiently large definitions of 3-5", in effect.

In Stock: Usually ships next business day.
This is an estimate only. This means we will ship the product once we confirm that stock is available and we have processed your order.

Now, that's chutzpah.

My Sumo Beanbag came through fairly quick when I ordered it, certainly within 3-5 business days. I think they may have gotten too popular too fast. Anyhow sucks about your bag buddy, hopefully they get their sh*t sorted because I'd like to order a few for my new house.

I ordered one of the smaller ones a few months back, and it shipped promptly. Good beanbag, very comfortable, and amazingly tough.

I was just discussing the sumo sac with my girlfriend last night. It will be a purchase that hopefully I will get to persuade her into once we have our own place.

HantaXP,
I can only imagine the sadness you must feel looking down at that empty place and wondering what it would be like if you had a sac there to enjoy.

So they didn't tell you it was backordered until after they had taken your money? Not cool. I'd like to think I'd have asked for a refund or some sort of compensation (maybe free next day shipping when it does come in) but I'm non-confrontational enough to know that I'd probably be doing the same thing you are.

On a side note, not every company is so disorganized. I recently ordered some water shoes and the expected ship date was July 5th. I got the shoes two days after placing the order, a whole 6 days before they were even supposed to be shipped.

Charged to Visa at the beginning of June. June 30th, someone emailed me telling me that they were back ordered. When I called the guy earlier in the month he said that the sumo sacs had been shipped out (i didnt give my purchase order or anything, i just assumed that I would get one.) Nope, nice email though, maybe a little late ....

From Andrew Milligan (the dude at Sumo):

Quote:
Hi Julian,

This guy is probably in Canada. Factory that produces the SumoSac does the same for Target & Walmart - Sumo got a ton of press & got back ordered by over 300 units & it overwhelmed the factory.

Nobody was expecting such a massive rush in sales but we learned from this & are better prepared now.

Canadian orders got hit the most as the factory did not have a Trans Border account in place & it would of cost over $100 to ship directly to Canada (at a loss).

Sumo has been around for 5 years - we don't rip people off & try to give the best service that we can.

As an entrepreneur getting swamped with orders can be a good problem but tell you I like to ship orders with 2 - 3 days - have learned from this - the factory is better prepared & something like this should never happen again.

Andrew

Anyone who's still waiting, please drop me a PM with your email address so Andrew can contact you.

I internalize my rage, thinking of interesting ways to bring your country down. Oh wait Bush did that for me.

Back to the topic though, Im pretty happy with the company right now.

Mine is abused - heavily - by many children, all the time. It takes a ten second fluff once in a while to reform it back into it's gelatinous cube self, but it seems indestructible. Also, muddy foot prints and chocolate wash out of the cover just fine.
