I read this article this morning and had to take a moment to dispair for the GOP. If this is what we have been reduced to, we truly deserve to wander the political wilderness for eternity.

There is only an up or down--up to a man's age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order--or down to the ant heap totalitarianism,... those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

At least this is a little more creative than McCain saying, "he can't be trusted."

What makes you think it is the GOP? People get plenty of fool notions in their heads (see 9/11 consipracy videos on YouTube) without the aid of the GOP (or the DNC for that matter).

I'll admit that it may be grassroots movements that just happen to identify with the a political party, but I hope we can agree that it's absolute crap either way.

If you read the article many of the people saying the stuff are listed as being Democratic Party voters...

Am I the only one who saw 'the Internet' being blamed as the source of all the false information and "TV and newspapers" being proclaimed as the bastions of truth?

The Internet allows a lot of these rumors to spread quickly and without any fact checking.

I've lost count of the number of anti-Obama chain emails I've been forwarded from some people I know back in the Midwest. There seems to be a single source for these emails--which cover the gamut of very selective quotations of his book that make him appear a black supremacist, claims he's a radical Muslim (his middle name is Hussein...just like that bad guy in Iraq!!!), and that he's so stupid that he holds a phone upside down (complete with a 'Shopped photo)--because they are all so similiar.

How do you like the one where they think he's from Africa? Obviously, if he were, he wouldn't be able to run for President.

I like the one where he's supposedly a gay fundamentalist muslim. This speaks volumes to the utter ignorance of anyone likely to believe this nonsense. Anyone that irreparably mentally deficient is a walking parody of himself.

I wonder if theirs a industry devoted to bashing Obama, is someone making money doing this, or is it all out of hate. Cause if its just out of hate, thats a lot of dedicated, if not, someones making a a fortune.

What's extra sad is that, I half-wager you could do that, say it was a picture of Obama from the Folsom Street Fair in the 80's, and get most of the morons in the original post to believe you.

"Bob down at the gas station said it was true, and he had a picture! It MUST be true!"

Someone I know and actually care about told me "I'm not a racist, but I'm pretty confident that there are enough people who don't like Obama's blackness to get McCain elected.". He's a pretty big McCain supporter and it didn't seem to bother him that he was relying on (and actually rejoicing in) the support of ignorant halfwits whose complete disappearance from the earth would leave it a better, more livable place.

I had to politely inform him that I couldn't bear his presence and hoped that he'd eventually see how such a victory would be a Pyrrhic one -- that McCain might "win", but American would ultimately be poorer for it.

Is this any worse than the people that will vote for Obama simply because he is black? Racism cuts both ways. i've heard statements from members of the black community that would be right at home in a KKK rally, if you swap the words white and black around, about how it will be when their guy wins.

I would have the same reaction if someone told me that they were not racist but were confident that there were enough people out there that had problems with McCain's whiteness.

I'm seriously considering voting for Cthulhu/Nyarlahotep. This crap is driving me crazy anyways. At least you would know where you stand. Plus I bet I could get the guys who come up with this (&@$^ stupid crap on both sides to line up first.

Or, I just had an idle thought. If he picked Shub-Niggurath as a running mate, then we'd have a female VP. That would bring out a gal I know who has decided that since Hillary lost she's never going to vote for a male again on anything.
