Searching for a Genre of Game, HELP!
Hey everyone!
I've been having quite a dillema lately, I'm getting bored with everything I play. I was playing a little WoW but I got super bored with that, then I bought MGS4 and played that 3 times through (although I loved EVERY moment and savoured it by watching every cutscene each time aha) I've gotten bored with everything. I got bored with shooters, rockband, MMO's, RPG's. I even got a little bored with Civilaization. I recently resorted to playing Monolopy Tycoon...yes the one from 1998. and while I enjoyed it I got bored. I just wanna know if there are any games out there that are really good that I can pick up and just enjoy it. I'm so sick of these amazing graphical games with not enough content and all that stuff, I just want a game to play with lts of content a truly enticing story. lots of single player stuff etc.
Heres hoping someone can help me Out.
To make this easier these are the systems I own.
ACER 3000 laptop computer : 256mb RAM, Intel celeron M processer and NVIDIA G-force graphics card (pretty old)
PS3: 40 Gb harddrive
PSP slim
PS2
and well super NES and an original NES.
Thanks!

Sometimes one can just be burnt out on games in general. When I get like that I just take a few weeks off of gaming and spend some time with some other hobbies. I always find my way back, either returning to something that I didn't have much interest in previously or something new that comes out. Either way, maybe a break would do you some good?
Otherwise, I'm sure there are others who will chirp in with good game recommendations.
I think you want You Have to Burn the Rope.
In all seriousness, though, that's a tough one. Easy accessibility tends to rule out the games that throw endless amounts of content and unique ideas at you, like Stalker, Mass Effect or Oblivion. For an easily accessible game with a good story, I would recommend Call of Duty 4, but at five or so hours it isn't exactly overflowing with material.
It's a long shot, but maybe adventure games would be your thing? Or you could try some weird Japanese games. Give Ico and Shadow of the Colossus a shot. Or buy a Wii and pick up No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy and the Metroid series.
Or, you know, as a last resort, you could read a book or something instead

I agree, being a gamer doesn't mean you have to play every spare moment every day. Sometimes a little time off can be refreshing. Usually after I finish a big title I take a week or so off before I dig into the next game on my list.

Dwarf Fortress would be my pick too. First you will need to learn the interface. Then you need to learn the basic stuff. Then you need to learn to survive the first winter. Then...etc. So a lot of learning, and totally worth it, it's a good game.
I don't watch, I interact!
Have you considered retrogaming? Even though I grew up a gamer, there are still a lot of classic titles I somehow managed to miss out on in days of yore. I recently went on a massive Master of Orion bender, and before that spent a good chunk of time with X-Com. Both are fairly easy to pick up, extremely deep, and Don't Suck(tm). Perhaps one of those would be your speed?
(first post. Hi, everyone!)
I've got some PSP recommendations if you're looking for nice pick up and play titles a little off the beaten path.
Space Invaders Extreme
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2
Exit
Jeanne D'ark
Metal Gear Acid 2
That's disgusting. It's the most vile genre in existence.
I don't know why anyone would subject themselves to GTA 4.
Seriously, though, if you've got a PS3 there are some downloadable games that might tickle your fancy. I'm officially* playing Vikings: Battle for Asgard right now, but when I don't feel like hacking the limbs off of evil undead viking hordes, I've been playing some Loco Roco Cocorecho (which my daughter loves to watch) or Pain (which my wife loves to watch). Neither are particularly complex, but they hold the attention. I also found the demo for Super Rub a Dub to be amusing.
I've heard good things about Calling All Cars and Everyday Shooter, but I haven't played them so I can't say for sure.
Other options are, of course, to hit the intartoobs for free flash games. There's millions of 'em out there, and some of them are pretty clever.
Finally, echoing the advice of others on this thread, you could do something else for a while. I did this a last year. I took a videogame hiatus, wouldn't even allow myself to read gaming websites or go into game stores for a full month. When I picked up a video game after that, it felt fun again; rather than just being something I did to kill time because I was bored.
*"Officially" in this context means "the game I have to finish and/or play for two months before I allow myself to buy or play another shrink-wrapped game for the PS3."
L337 is not a word. BA7F is a word.
Hee hee. Monolopy.
Just take a break from gaming, dude. If you don't feel like playing, don't play.

Have you tried strategy RPGs? (Like Jeanne D'Arc or Final Fantasy Tactics.) How about really reaching back and trying interactive fiction (i.e. "text adventures")... or if that's a bit too far, old school point-and-click adventures.
I don't tend to get burnt out on games, since I don't have too much time to play, but when I feel a little tired, I'll usually play something retro and easy (Frogger or Joust) and turn on some music I like. The process is a little simpler with a 360, but I'm sure you can manage.

Thanks guys, I knew I heard good things about this site aha. Yeah I might go back and revisit some of my classic collection..I was a collector and I have almost a complete set of ses games just collecting dust in the closet. Maybe i'll go check those out.
I've also heard some good things about Space Invaders.
To be honest I think that MGS4 may have burned me out, three or four playthroughs is enough to kill anyone aha.
I just love gaming. It truly is my only hobby besides developing my website. So I guess until another triple A title comes out, I'll be going back about 13 years in gaming history.
Thanks!
Welcome aboard. This place really is a genuine oasis for mature gamers.
Anyway, if you're interested in Space Invaders Extreme, GameTrailers has a cool video review that's a great sell. The game is also only $20 so it's a low-risk purchase.
Sounds to me like you just plain need a break, but maybe that's just mean. I've taken a bit of a break from most of my gaming recently. I think I've fired up games three days in three weeks, which is a good bit less than my normal. Honestly I'm kind of enjoying it. Plenty of time to do other things.

I'm not sure how the PS2 version fared but I loved Gladius on the Xbox. It's a turn-based strategy RPG but it really felt different than most anything else I had played. Lots of fun, plenty of depth and there's a fair amount of content to keep you busy for awhile. Ring of Red is another really cool PS2 game in the strategy RPG genre that really felt fresh. I'm not sure that the storytelling is all that hot but it's still a fun game.
If you can find it, get a copy of Myth II. That game seriously rocks. Solid storytelling, lots of strategy... awesome stuff. Sure it's a bit old but the game really holds up well.
When I don't know what else to play I can always toss in a dungeon crawler and have lots of fun. Diablo II, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, Sacred... nice, mindless games that hold up well to multiple replays.
If you haven't played PixelJunk Monsters yet on the PSN, go check it out. I find it's a great game to fire up every now and then and try to tear through a level. It's extremely challenging and has leaderboards so I find it always gives me something to work on.
Finally, there are some great older PC RPGs to check out if you never played them. Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment are seriously awesome. Icewind Dale is also very cool although it's more about the dungeon delving than story. Still, they're all solid games and worth playing.

Interesting that no one has mentioned any of the recent good RTS's.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
I was gonna buy pixel junk monsters, good thing I played the demo first, because it looks like crap on my sd tv aha. I brought my ps3 over to a friends house and played it on his HD and it was great. However if I have to purchase the game and then lug my system somewhere else to play it ,its not worth it.
Anyway, what good RTS games are out there?
What's the lesson we've learned here? That's right, it's time for you to buy an HDTV.

You know...I would buy an HDTV. But I have bills to pay . Bills that exceed my Income. Im sure one day I'll get a good Job and quit working at the local grocery store but sadly. until that day comes, I'm stuck with an HDTV my parents bought for me in 1986. At least its color!
Nobody's mentioned Space Rangers 2? Stardock carries it via Impulse, it's *fantastic*.

Just in case you are new to it, it's a single-player rpg space trading/fighting game with planetary RTS battles, text-based quests, top-down space battles, and lots of other goodies like fully customizable space ships and massive alien invasion fleets.
It's unique. Highly recommended.
Man, that sounds really cool!
I'm on my way now to check it out.
Diablo 2 would work quite well on that system (pc).
