Overclocking without vcore changes ? possible ?

Hi , i was unfortunate enough to purchase a motherboard which seems to not allow me to alter my vcore above the 1.350, thats the max i can select in bios... so basicaly i can raise the FSB by about 8 then it just crashes in games. So basicaly i can get about a 80 mhz speed increase... great

My motherboard is an ASUS m2n4 SLI socket AM2 running a 6000 + chip and 2 gig of DDR2 memory @ 533 mhz.
Basicaly i want to get a stable clock of about 3.5 ghz or at the very least 3.3.. but not being able to alter the vcore is limiting what i can do.
Can i get around this vcore limit by modding / flashing my bios ? or perhaps altering other settings to gain stability.

I've looked on google to try and find some answers and it seems im not alone with the problem but have yet to find anything i can try to achieve a decent overclock.

Any help much appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light upon this issue.

You're dreaming. Those chips just don't overclock much. AMD is right at their process limits; they have very little headroom. You MIGHT get it to 3.2Ghz, but god only knows if it's going to be stable, and you'll find it entirely impossible to see any speed difference in any kind of real-world scenario.

Core2s overclock like crazy, but high-end X2s just don't. The very fastest they sell is 3.2Ghz. If they could go any faster and be reliable, AMD would have them on the market. You might get it to run okay for awhile by overvolting it, but it'll drastically shorten the chip life if you try.

You'll get much better results from just sticking with stock speeds, and putting decent RAM in it. 533Mhz is too slow. Get 4GB of DDR2-800 and be done with it. Any overclocking attempts are just e-peen wanking; they won't make any difference you'll notice, except for extra crashes.

Would it be worth me upgrading to an AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9850 ? How much performance increase would i expect to see ? duel core v quadcore ?

When I've got to start doing resistance and voltage measuring to overclock I'm out of my league. Those guys are intense or rich.

Will a AMD phenom work on this board ?

I can't find that board on Newegg, but I don't think so. X2s are on socket AM2, and Phenoms are on AM2+, so I suspect it won't work.

Phenoms aren't all that fast anyway. If you really want a significant CPU upgrade, buy a midrange Core2 and Socket 775 board, and overclock the hell out of it.

If you don't want to replace your motherboard, then it looks like 3.2Ghz is about the best you can do, and the 3Ghz chip you have already is so close that you shouldn't bother. Just put a decent amount of 800Mhz RAM in, and forget it. That should give you much better results, and will cost the least.

AMD is really stalled; I suspect they're headed for bankruptcy.
