WOW BHA Tank rogue back to take down illidan
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 - 9:24am
This is the same guy that has tanked Gruul and Mother Shahraz. Here's his armory profile (60% dodge and 12% parry), although I don't think that's the gear he used to tank the big guy (he's wearing some quest blues, although that might be to allow more +agility gems).
Now that I think about it I guess this same rogue (or one similarly equipped) could beat any boss in the game provided they do mostly physical damage (and of course provided they have equally uber-geared DPS and healers to assist).
Well we know it can be done so Hunters get MDs up on grinders, and shanker and lets see what they can do ![]()
Don't blame me if the heals suck you're the one who said the shadow priest had to heal.

That is just amazing.
Tundra= Grinders (main), Grindars (paly alt), also work with Shanker/Reap.
Ever since I started educating myself on tanking mechanics, I've said that rogues could probably tank most melee bosses.

wonder what he does about the crushing blows....

If he's able to truly get his dodge high enough (i.e. so that dodge/parry/miss is 102.4%), he doesn't have to worry. However I'm not sure if this is a case of getting to the point where he truly can't be hit, or just high enough that he rarely gets hit and the healers can keep up with crushes. Haven't watched the video to be sure.

Druids get crushed all the time and have the advantage of armor in to 30k..raid buffed I have seen druids in 60% dodge as well. he is lucky to have 5k of armor. And this rogue can still get crit as well as crushed.. His healers are probably healing him through all the dmg.

That was sort of my thought. Druids have the extra life and armor to help get through crushes, which he doesn't, so I was wondering if he was able to get dodge/parry/miss all the way to 102.4. Seems to me he'd have to get higher than just 60% dodge plus base parry/miss to avoid enough damage for the healers to keep him up, but then again I'm no rogue expert.

Can you have Evade up 100% of the time, like Pallies can have Holy Shield up full-time? If so, how much dodge does that add?

well this is at least the 3rd major boss he has done this with now how he has changed his gear between the fight is something I don't know but you have to at least give him some credit for thinking outside the box.

No evade can not be up full time. It is very powerful though when it is up. I personally have had evade up on prince and mags and lasted an extra 10 secs or so. Then I'm toast after that.

Well with his dodge being 60% now, with elixir or major agility + kings + impv MotW + warp burger he could get it higher.. probably closer to 68%. With the 14% parry thats 82% of damage that he does not get. Now the 1/5 hits will still hit him hard even with his 405 defense. Evasion will help during certain phases (late into Gruul for example) but unless he gets his defense and resilience up he will be crit and crushed.
His healers are carrying him through big hits.

The rogue was passively melee immune. Rogue tanks get their dodge, parry and miss chances to 102.4% passively with a TON of agi. So they can't be HIT by melee attacks. Illidan hits like a pansy anyway. The big hits were probably the 5k Draw Soul(hits for 5k shadow damage, heals Illidan for 100k). I'm pretty sure that he can't get Shear'd, which would probably make a rogue tank impossible for the fight.
Playing with Warcrafter, adding imp MotW, grace of air, kings, agi food and a major agility elixir, he's at 93.67% total avoidance. With IS and Scorpid Sting, he's at 100.67 total. I know Illidan hits for upwards of 10k with a MH attack on leather, so I must be missing something...
I'm really not surprised that they tried downing Illidan with a rogue tank. Illidan hits like a pansy on T6-geared tanks. Crushings are the only real danger-tanks save shield block for the Shear(which reduces the tank's HP by 60%, and is the reason that druid MT's aren't used for him). Having a melee-immune tank makes P4 complete cake, because the raid doesn't need to worry about repositioning him across the room for a trap during the enrage. The only real danger is the two magic attacks he does-the flame circles and the Draw Soul attack.
Also, the phases where you're fighting Illidan are the easy ones. The only hard phase is P2-fire elemental phase.

And it's entirely possible they can be Cloaked right through.

You're skipping over miss chances. 5% base, 5% from the hunter sting, x% from that druid insect swarm thing. I think the worldofraids story on this has a complete breakdown of the #s. Point is, if nothing can ever hit him, he's pretty likely to succeed.

well I suppose we had just get into the instance lab with some rogues and lots of healers reenact some runs. Grinders ya game? You know you always wanted to try tanking.
We can have some gnomes in a corner with lab coats on and clipboards in hand to monitor the results.
