The 411 on GWJ:A

Greetings and Salutations.

Most of you probably don't know who I am, since I do a lot more lurking around the site than I do posting things on it. At any rate, I'll get right to the short of it. I run into you folks in the GWJ:A all the time online. I'm horde, so rather I run by you and /wave.

I'm in a raiding guild for those that generally work 8-5 type jobs, and while I enjoy it a lot, we've got only a couple of tanks and there often isn't a whole lot to do that doesn't involve soloing/duoing stuff or pvping, which in my experience has been abysmal for horde in this battlegroup unless I do AB.

I play WoW as a method of keeping me entertained, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, and it gets rather irritating when we're frequently thwarted by the lack of tanks. Another issue is that I'm eastern time and the vast majority of the people in the guild are pacific, and things tend to start too late for me. So seeing you folks running about I start to wonder what it would be like to be a part of the GWJ:A, as I have two 70 alliance characters on another server that I might be willing to relocate. With that, I'm curious as to what a general week is like in GWJ:A's little corner of WoW, if anyone wouldn't mind sharing.

Haus- I think your assumption of us being west coasters is not quite correct. We have a lot of midwest and eastern players also. We usually start our raids at 7pm server and go to 10pm server. We have a great mix of folks and are geared to go to ssc. We have gruul/mags on farm and we just hit our third timer in ZA. To be honest, the GWJ:A is a mix of some great people. They are very knowledgable, helpful and fun. I can say, you wouldn't be making a mistake if you transfered in to blackhand alliance.

After rereading your post, I think you were saying your horde guild is pacific. Sorry for the confusion.

He meant that his guild is west coasters primarily. It's all good.

And yes, Haus, we're a pretty decentralized guild, but unfortunately for our west coasters, there's more action in the eastern/central time zones with GWJ:A.

With the kind of population we have, we don't necessarily have a typical week, but there's almost always at least one Karazhan raid, usually two. Zul'Aman sees a fair amount of action from us, and we're about to spank Zul'jin (unless we already have while I've been on hiatus) any day now. We're entering into SSC and TK, having gotten Gruul & Mags on solid downed status too. Only thing we struggle with at times is keeping the numbers available for larger raids (25-person content).

Let's put it this way, I'm a western time zone guy and even though I probably won't get into many raids, I wouldn't leave this guild because of that... they're great people.

We are a casual raiding guild. We raid multiple times a week but there are no set times or schedules or instances, just whatever can be worked out with whomever says they are available for a given week. We generally have around 20-40 people on every night with a good mix of tanks, healers and DPS. The guild is great for those of us who are serious about the game but work for a living and have a life outside of the game. If all you want to do is raid, you will be disappointed. If you enjoy a good mix of socializing, PVP, grinding, running instances and raiding, you will love GWJ:A.

Indeed. I get people finally asking to do something at 9-10 my time and it just can't happen, especially on weeknights. I don't mind being online until midnight or so on Friday or Saturday, but I just can't do on the weeknights.

Thank you all for all of the input. I'm not exactly focused on raids, but I do enjoy PvE a lot and raids tend to be one of the few things that feels lasting to me. I like a good heroic too, but rarely get to do those without a tank of course.

The most frustrating part of it all is that both of my alliance characters are tanks, and I just don't have it in me to level another one horde so that I have something to do in my current guild. On my old server, I was never needed as a tank because everyone else wanted to do it and there was only two people that wanted to heal, one of them being quite the anal orifice. That said, I never cared for pvp on either of my tanks, but I think pvp is really all about grouping up with people you like to make it fun. I like a bit of pvp on my horde warlock here on Blackhand, but I'm not the type of guy to make it my primary thing and it's also often not that much fun since I've lost nearly every BG of every type that I've ever done on that character except for AB, for which I'd estimate I've won a good 80-90 percent of.

What it all boils down to is that I feel like I'm wasting money if I only log in and do something a couple of times a week at best. I'm just thinking that maybe it's time for a change.
