June 23 - 27

It has to be said that there are a ton of games coming to market this week. In many ways, this week has it all: two movie tie-in games, a Sims 2 Expansion featuring IKEA (I assume your Sims' moods deteriorate proportional to the amount of Swedish furniture they are forced to own), the usual collection of entirely average and forgettable DS games, further proof that the PS2 ain't quite dead yet and even a candidate for worst game name ever with: Mega Man Star Force 2 Zerker X Saurian. The only thing we're really missing is the typical molestation of the letter Z for edgy plurals.
Among the notables this week, The SimCity Box which includes the solid and dramatically under-rated SimCity Societies + expansion along with SimCity 4 + expansion for $39.99; a definite steal if you gave these games a pass when they were released. Honestly, I could pretty comfortably recommend the price tag just for Societies and its expansion. Also, the 360 continues to try and shoehorn the RTS genre onto consoles with C&C3: Kane's Wrath as well as Supreme Commander. The DS sees Guitar Hero go portable with On Tour. Along with all that you also have Naruto on the PSP, Alone in the Dark and Top Spin 3 on multiple platforms and on the next-gen systems Battlefield: Bad Company.
But, despite this cornucopia of newness, I'm going with the Wii release of Rock Band as my Game of the Week. It would be fair to characterize this as an activist decision; recognition with an agenda. I wouldn't even argue against such claims. So brazen is my bias.

Top Spin 3 for me baby! Anyone else getting this for the 360? Wanna play a match?
Looks like I'll continue to work through my Pile of Shame this week.
Move along now. Nothing to see here.

No kidding. Bleh.

Maybe. I actually picked up Virtua Tennis 3 not long ago. It will be interesting to contrast them. To be honest, a more arcade feel will win out for me, in all likelihood. I'm planning on renting Top Spin 3, so we will see.
What is your preference?
I will say the Top Spin would have been my choice this week, as well.

Make room on the SRPG bandwagon for me too!

The big ones look to be the Rock Band for the Wii and the DS Lite version of Guitar Hero "On Tour"
My wife was very excited about "On Tour". I guess I know another item to add to the Xmas list now.
Also that Simcity 4/Societies combo pack looks like a damn good deal. I might have to pick that up.
Thanks.

Boo, I say. Boo.
Computers don't make errors. What they do, they do on purpose. By now your name and particulars have been fed into every laptop, desktop, mainframe and supermarket scanner that collectively make up the global information conspiracy.

Indeed. It's not OWNING it that'll deteriorate their mood, it's trying to decipher instructions with zero words.
It's the CONSTRUCTION part that'll make them want to go postal.

I wonder if they actually have to put them together. And if they fall apart if they aren't very handy. Sounds like everything I ever bought from them.

That's not a Swedish thing. My new "Made in the USA" Weber grill had that feature. It was cursed many times.

What happened to Alone in the Dark, isn't this a great big next-gen title?
Am I missing a ton of crummy reviews or is it just too soon to tell?

I wonder if there's any chance of the Hellboy game being good. I do love Hellboy.

Has anyone got Alone in the Dark? And if so is it truly any good, as I've heard otherwise...

The rantings of the Lord of Leisure. Enjoy!!
The nice thing about the SimCity pack is that one can buy it for SimCity 4 and Rush Hour, and if it gets a little too stressful, try out Societies for a while. It's an easier introduction into the joys of planning out cities and watching them grow.

Dangit Elysium, buy Alone in the Dark and let us know how bad it is, or at least link us to a well-written review.
This is your sacred duty.

Alone in the Dark looked solid to me, a PC first release makes me worried though along with all the crummy reviews and bad Atari press though..
I enjoy off-the-mainstream Japanese games. EDF 2017, Bulletwitch, TenchuZ. Heck, I'll even be giving Vampire Rain a try. It's a sickness I tell you!
Anyways, I'm interested in Operation Darkness, just not for the new release premium pricing.

EDF 2017 is great - shooting aliens in its purest form.

Yes, I totally agree about EDF2017. For a budget game, it really gave me one of my favorite gaming experiences in years. I hope they release another in the series.

I've put more hours into EDF than any title on the 360 I believe. Sure it was unpolished and had severe framerate trouble, but it really seemed to add to the charm of the game. I'd buy a new Sandlot title in a heartbeat.
