Sorry, I thought the comic series was shameless fanboyism, and the movie looks like more of the same.

Basically, a big nerd who reads comics finds out he has the ability to kill anybody and live like a movie star.
Hm, totally realistic and not crafted to appeal to comics readers at all.
At least Spiderman has a sense of responsibility / moral duty, the Wanted guy is just a jerk.

This is from the same director who did Night Watch and Day Watch so if you've seen those then you know what kind of "style" to expect. Though, I'm a bit miffed that he dropped "Dusk Watch" (the 3rd in the trilogy) to do this movie instead and now it appears he has no desire to go back and finish his trilogy (apprently he's waiting to see if he will be tapped to do a Wanted sequel).

As for this movie.. eh, no real desire to see it in the theatres, but I'll probably check it out on DVD (guess I should say Blu-ray nowadays).

I didn't read too many of the comics, but weren't they drawing the main character to look like Eminem all the time? Kinda weird (or not) that he ended up having nothing to do with this film.

It does look interesting, though, in a whiz-bang kind of way.

I plan on seeing this movie as just what I expect out of the previews ... a movie to enjoy.

I think I was blessed not reading comics when I was young and getting really into a lot of these stories (Hulk, Iron Man, etc ...) as it seems that people are more miffed about the movie not following a certain plot or criteria then just going out with a friend or significant other to enjoy a couple hours. *Shrug*

Argh, this makes me sad too. Those were not necessarily high-falutin quality movies but they were great fun and faithful to the source concept if not every letter of the book. Actually if you check the fansites they say the movies are a different canon from the books, which is fine too - it felt like the movies were a whole different set of stories, and almost as good as the books - anyway, my point is these are great and delaying the last movie is bad news.

What's that, you say this thread is about the Wanted movie? Oh right, well I think the movie will be great if they just throw the comic entirely out the window. So we'll see how well they do with that.

Being the gravy train which The Watch series turned out to be, their author wrote a whole bunch of follow-on titles like Dusk Watch, Final Watch, and Kid Watch. I've read none of them, but the opinion is out that they're as bad as you'd expect from a hastily made cash-in.

It looks like a fun movie where you have to leave reality and all things related to it at the door.

It is added to my list of more than a dozen movies I want to see this summer (I think there are 8 in theaters right now and I haven't seen any of them, so we'll see if this makes the cut).

I didn't even know that it was based on a graphic novels series. Though that does make more sense now that I know on why the movie is styled in the way it is. I think the movie looks like a lot of fun and I'm probably going to have no issue sitting down with my popcorn and soda to watch this action flick. Besides it has Jolie in it showing of her actual tattoos. What more could a guy want? I've watched every single movie with Jolie in it since Foxfire. Why would I stop now?

Agree here. I guess the lure of Hollywood dollars were too tempting. Shame because what he was able to capture on a miniscual budget was phenominal and the Watch series is facinating.

As for Wanted. While it differs greatly from the comic i am interested in seeing a good ole action romp, and having Jolie to look at doesn't hurt either.

This is some kind of really elevated sarcasm? The Watch series is brilliant. Far deeper and more interesting than the movies, but the movies were pretty good too.

I know I am in the minority among my peers when I say that I really didn't like the book (I've only read Night Watch). I just couldn't get over what I felt was a wanna-be Strugatskye shtick that never stood up to the source. The movies actually redeemed the books in a big way, IMHO -- they delivered the sense of a laconic, nervous pace that was not evident in the book. Then again, in the movies a lot was left out and a lot was rehashed.

Thankfully the movie seems to have very little to do with the comics, because they were about the most repugnant "oh look at me I'm so edgy" bullsh*t I've ever read. They made me want to puke blood in Mark Millar's exposed mouth until he drowns in my bile. No, f*ck *you* in the ass, you horrible little homophobic toerag.

I'm still a little peeved at Mark Millar for how he treated the Marvel characters in Ultimates, to be frank.

This is far off topic so I won't get into it.

I think it's it's a badly written power fantasy aimed at racist, sociopathic teens. Poor little white suburban kid Wesley learn to throw aside the sissy ways he learned from his single mom and stand up against his bullying african-american boss, the latino gangs, and his slutty asian girlfriend through wanton rape and murder. Every high school bully, girl who spurned him, or dork that mildly offended him gets killed. This transformation takes a whopping two seconds, giving it all the conviction of boiled asparagus. Throughout you get such cunning satire as renaming Bizzaro f*ckwit. Twoface becomes Johnny Two-Dicks, and Clayface sh*thead. And the book is suffused with an insufferable sense of smugness, like Millar actually thinks he's being clever instead of sophomoric.

You can't summarize it better than the last page though; a big splash of Wesley, face contorted and apparently in the midst of raping someone, with the caption "This is my face as I'm f*cking you in the ass".

Yes Mark, that's exactly what reading your book was like. Well done.

Drowning in my bile really isn't enough.
