Starcraft Broodwar Reunion!!!

Some of the SoaSE gents and myself were thinking we'd love to take a stab at Starcraft again for old time's sake, and of course, in preparation for that day the sequel will come out. That far off dreamy day.

SO- Meet in Ventrillo in the Starcraft channel next Friday 8:00 pm PST, be there or be square.

The game will be a full patched B-Net version of Broodwar. If for some reason Battle Net doesn't work for us (but it should) we will do a UDP Lan game via Hamachi (sp?).
More details to follow.

Alrighty, who's in?

P.S.- ZERG RUSH kekekekekekekekekekekeke!!!1!1!

P.S.S.- Second night scheduled for Saturday after next, probably evening, time to be announced.

I'm in. I never got terribly good at it but SC:BW is still my favorite game of all time.

8pm PST is 5pm EST right?

Instructions shamelessly taken from the Blizzard website on how to run Starcraft without a CD wrote:

Windows Users:
- Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked. To do this please use the following steps:
- Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer
- Click on Tools -> Folder options (Windows Vista users may have to press the Alt key to see the tools option at the top of the window)
- Click on the View Tab In the list, look for the "Hide extensions for known file types" option, and make sure that it is unchecked.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Now you will need to copy some files from the Game CDs
- If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq".
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq". If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy and rename the install file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.

Mac users:
- If you own only StarCraft, copy "StarCraft Archive" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder.
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "Brood War Archive" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder. If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy the Starcraft Archive file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.

Or you take your game key and register at blizzardstore.com and download the files. No CDs required to play after that, either. If you can't find your key, they were selling it for $14.95 last month (not sure if it's the same price now).

Actually, I believe that would be 11pm EST.

Oh right, Pacific is earlier than Eastern of course. Well, 11pm is still good for me.

I'm out of town Friday night or I'd be game. I love Starcraft, though I've never really been quite good at it, and haven't played multiplayer with it for years.

No worries, if all goes well we will definitely have a second night, maybe more.

Excellent. I learned zerg because all my friends at the time wh*red themselves out to Protoss carrier spamming, and I hated them for it.

When I first started the game, I loved the protoss because of the carriers. My friend couldn't defend against them at first because he always tried targetting the fighters instead of the carriers.

Then he learned, and developed his own cheap tactic. Then vice versa, and so on. It was entertaining.

Carriers are definitely tough if you're not prepared for them, especially if you're Terran. Even then, I've never been that good at using mass goliaths vs. them while trying to expand and/or put pressure on the protoss. But yeah, I think everyone that's played has either been the victim or perpetrator of mass carriers.

Yeah, the whole game is kind of centered around using and defending against cheap tactics.

That's the fun for me. Once you and your friend(s) have learned enough varied cheap and/or evil tactics, it becomes a mind game of "ok... which nasty, dirty trick is he using this time? Terrans?! He never plays terrans! Wait... I know he likes nuclear missi--sh*t! NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED!" or any of a nicely varied number of permutations of that comment. Made for a lot of entertaining chat during games with him.

I'm not good at RTS games. I play them to be entertained, not to be an actual competitive player. And I got more entertainment out of Starcraft and Warcraft III than any other RTS's I've played. They're casual-friendly as long as you play with buddies.

OK, lets go ahead and schedule the second night right off the bat for those that can't make it to the first (I'm THAT confident this will be a smashing success).
I was thinking this Saturday, in the evening, maybe 8pm PST again? Totally depends on when is best for those who can't make it on Friday. Thoughts?

Let me clarify what I wrote earlier in this thread: I'm out of town this weekend or I'd be all over this. Sunday night is either WoW time with the GWJ guild or time with my girlfriend's daughter in town visiting on short leave from the National Guard.

Next weekend sometime would be awesome (or a weeknight next week) to roll with some Starcraft fun.

Well, due to a family thing that's come up I won't be able to be there this weekend- go figure. No worries, I'm sure you guys will have a great time, just meet up in the vent channel and talk it out.

I will make an executive decision and push round 2 back to the weekend after this one- of course, no one's stopping an impromptu match Saturday, do what feels right amigos.

Enjoy! I'll dominate y'all soon enough.

Hmm, my horoscope claims that tonight is not an auspicious night for Starcraft. Neither is tomorrow. But it further predicts that the planets will be well aligned from Sunday through Thursday.

Hey i went to blizzardstore.com to register my keys, and when i started the register process it threw up a security error with the sites SSL certificate. I canceled out of the whole process. Wasn't about to key in those codes incase the site had been compromised.

Can we all just hop on XFire to coordinate some games like we did in the past, or is XFire not for the cool kids anymore? Starcraft would be an excellent first game to put on my laptop I just ordered.
