Kung Fu Panda

Saw it yesterday, thought it was really cool. The initial dream artwork was cool, the animal kung fu was cool. Good story, etc.
One question I had --
Quote:
After that last move on the bad guy, what happened to him??
Only issue I had was sitting through PG previews.
Boring, the only one that looks decent is the Wall-e one. If I ever have to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua please kill me first.

Careful what you wish for... I have a feeling some people will hold you to this request.
I love kids movies. By far the best is the Emperor's New Groove. However, the trailers for this one didn't look so good. Was this one of those "I didn't expect anything good but was surprised it didn't suck" type movies, or was it actually worth spending the money to go see?
"I can't knife you right now. I have a chair and some pants."
It was actually a good movie. I went with 2 other adults and we all liked it.

I really enjoyed it, I thought it was one of the best films I have seen so far this year. It is pretty predictable, but still very charming.

Just got in from seeing this myself. I saw it with my daughter, and we both enjoyed the heck out of it. It's not going to shake the world, but it was a fun flick. Jack Black as the Panda was pitch perfect. I thought they did an excellent job with the story. It was simple, but thorough. They never let it bog down with too much back story and such.
Great family flick, very good for any adult.

Saw it with my wife and almost three year old daughter. We all enjoyed it, and my daughter wants to buy it when it is released on DVD.
As others have said, it really isn't breaking any new ground, and is fairly predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. And hey, Jackie Chan!

I really enjoyed it as well. Just a good time with some good laughs in it.
Girlfriend and myself will be taking the kids to go see it on Sunday. Matinee prices FTW!

Was wondering where the GWJ thread for this rather awesome movie is. I saw it on the opening weekend with couple friends and it was a blast! Full of action, humor, and it has some good philosophical points too.
Decisions are just decisions, there are neither "good" or "bad"

I see a lot of kid movies with my son, and this was one of the good ones so long as you like kung fu movies. It's predictable and you know exactly where you're going every step of the way, but it doesn't matter. What it does, it does so well that you don't mind that you've seen it all before.
It's not a movie for the person who hates kung fu movies, because kung fu is happening on screen for, oh, about 80% of the movie. The thing I liked about it was that all the ridiculously impossible moves that I thought looked silly in something like Crouching Tiger worked better in animated form when performed by a giant talking panda. I did not expect that going in.

Dude, really, who hates kung fu movies?
I've heard that Dreamworks somehow didn't pack this movie full of pop culture references. That should immediately put it above most of their animated flicks.

Yea, it's more old Fu movie refs, if anything. Nothing modern (if I remember correctly).
Yeah, nothing in this movie felt forced. It's one of those movies that just did what it set out to do very, very well. It didn't ruin it by trying to make a big statement, or trying to be all things to everyone.

Saw this with a couple of friends last night, all adults, and we all loved it too. It's just one of those movies filled with awesomeness
I always find it good when I see a movie my 4 year old nephew loves watching too. Means I'll have something to watch while babysitting
I also when looking for pop-culture references, and it didn't seem to really have any that stood out. Classic Kung Fu homages only!

I've heard some people say this is the first Dreamworks animation movie that looks like it decided to build a foundation on a pixar-like story, instead of being the mindless crap that Shrek is.

Am I the last person on the planet that remembers how enjoyable the original Shrek was?
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
The problem with Shrek is that it's dated, as most of Dreamworks films tend to be. Looking at it now, other than the classic references to the fairy-tales, all the jokes are "out-dated" in a way, where they refer to things that happened a decade ago.
With Kung Fu Panda, there are no such references, making the overall humor and appeal to the movie more timeless, and having great replay value

No one is going to comment on the blatant Ramen Noodle shilling going on in this movie? Come On! What is it going to take for you guys to stand up to our noodly oppressors?
The Almond Cookie cartel also got a prime spot in this flick! Wake up!
Loved it. Will own it.
Politely rude. Briskly vague. Firmly uninformative.
For the record, I hated the original Shrek when it came out. That might have something to do with my general distaste for Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, though.

I'll go with "To each his own.", then. Loved Shrek and hated Pixar's offerings at the time. Of course, this changed rather rapidly afterwards.
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
Finally got around to seeing Kung Fu Panda. I originally had no intentions to head over to the movie theatre, because the trailer looked kinda lame - panda getting knocked down by the punching ball? Oh boy. - and all recent Dreamworks productions seemed rather uninspired and boring. Especially if you compare it to the stuff Pixar is coming up with. That said, KFP was very entertaining. Jack Black nailed it down - or, depending on your perspective, Dreamworks nailed Jack Black down. A perfect match - as was Dustin Hoffman's character. As already mentioned above, the movie also did not get stuffed with pop-culture references for once.
The intro was awesome. Bet I wasn't the only one who wished the whole movie was made like that.
I crave a 2-d renaissance.

It hasn't aged well. In a few years it's probably going to be a really bad movie with dated references...

Went this weekend with my ultra-conservative in-laws who live in the middle of nowhere.
EVERYONE liked it.
Oddly, I was less enthusiastic about this movie the longer I didn't see it. Now that I've seen it I can't remember what it was that was making me not want to go see it.
