Yup, apparently it's bad taste to perform satire on certain subjects.

Freedom of expression? we only mean that to things that don't offend our sensibility.
Since when has there been a right to not be offended, and if such a right exists how is this reconcilable with the right to freedom of expression and speech?

Anyone stiring the pot over this subject in the US? Or is it being overlooked for now?

LOL, they should look up the word "glamorize." It does not, so far as I'm aware, include have the police hunt you down and shoot you like a dog.

The real issue is that people don't think that games can work on any level other than the bluntly fun, so from that perspective anything mentioned or referenced is being supported. I remember when there was a purported "rape scene" in Xenosaga (there wasn't one,) and people went nuts. Now, even if the scene in question HAD been a rape scene, the act (reaching in a girl's rib-cage with a ghostly hand to remove some etherial thing or another,) was done by the villain, and he later was killed for having done it. And yet, people claimed that the game was some disgusting rape sim.

I had my problems with GTA4, but I was always impressed by its sharp sense of sarcasm and irony. It's a witty game. Overall the meta-game of rampaging and mission-doing undermined Niko's character so much I couldn't enjoy the story much, but Rockstar is kind of on the forefront of social commentary. If only through the radio stations.

This has to be a story started by Rockstar to get some free publicity, doesn't it? Max Clifford (famous PR guy) orchestrated a lot of the 'outrage' over the original GTA.

The original story in the Sun was based on one complaint, IIRC. It seems quite similar to the drunk-driving complaint as well, in that it's complaining about something in game which is very easy to defend but has a good hook to get the media interested.
