Hey, that's pretty cool! Listening now.

My wife loves Coldplay, so I forwarded the link. Unfortunately, she's a Perez Hilton junkie and read on his site recently that the new album is pretty disappointing (guess he got an advance copy). I commented that he just rips on anything and everyone anyway but she countered that Perez takes his music very seriously and doesn't hit below the belt over the subject unless truly warranted.

For what it's worth, I'm on the 3rd song from the link and it sounds fine to me. Though I'm admittedly not the biggest fan. I always tease her and call Coldplay "Radiohead Lite" and if I really want to get under her skin I call Radiohead (my favorite band) the "Thinking Man's U2" (her favorite band).

Just one more turn!

I haven't listened to the entire album yet, but I I'm loving "Viva la Vida" and think's it worth the price of the whole album.....One of the few times I've bought a CD on release day....

I think it's a pretty good album, but not their best.

But I like this album too.

It lacks flow and this is most evident going from track one to two. Despite that, my verdict is a thumbs up. Presently, I rank it above X&Y and par with Parachutes. This isn't a wide range so don't be offended at my ordering.

I really like Life In Technicolor but it goes nowhere. Cemeteries of London and Lost! are pretty good. I like them a lot more than the first listen. 42 convinces me that the first track on Parachutes, Don't Panic, was indeed a Hitchhikers reference. Lovers In Japan is one of my favorites on the album. Yes has those strings going for it, otherwise I'd probably skip it usually. Viva La Vida I still really like though since it was the second of two songs released beforehand that it's wearing a bit. Not nearly as much as Violet Hill. That came out first and has been played to death by me. Strawberry Swing is a very pleasant song. I include it and Death And All His Friends amongst my favorites.

I just picked his up at the store yesterday and listened to it all the way through about three times now since then. I've always been a fan of Coldplay but as with every new release you hope they can keep the same sound and yet still still grow musically with a slightly different implementation of that sound. I feel that Coldplay has really done just that with this album.

Viva La Vida is everything you love about Coldplay from their previous albums. That cool vibe of electronica along with the swift beats of Will Champion (Drums) and that rhythmic undulation of Guy Berryman (Bass) coupled with the soft yet melodious picking of Jonny Buckland (Guitar) and of course Chris Martin softly singing and then confidently belting out those long tones and lyrics. And yet they change even that up but in a good way with a few songs. Cemeteries in London has a distinct Welsh/Scottish feel to it. Yes/Chinese Sleep Chants show their skill in mixing two different songs together in a single track and yet it's still two entities with a bit of Middle Eastern funk with a slight STP sound to it only to switch to a familiar sound of what I think is a U2 influence. Of course their title track Viva La Vida which I can only describe has a song of uplifting qualities and one that really makes you want to start nodding that head. Most certainly the one song off the album you have heard as it's on rotation on the radio. Violet Hill is most definitely a Beatles inspired track only to be followed up with Strawberry Swing which has a very distinct Blue Grass influence in the strings at first but then the Celtic like drums kick in beating out the beat.

I won't ruin it all for you but I will say that I am quite impressed with this album and I feel it really shows the skill and talent of Coldplay. Viva La Vida will not disappoint.

When I heard the new song on the radio, I thought it was U2 becuase it sounded just like Bono singing.

I listened to this album a few times on Rhapsody, and just grew tired of it quick, and ended up not buying it (which would happen in Amazon's MP3 section). Despite its considerable production qualities and a few nice melodies, there is simply nothing there that would secure longevity.

Thank you. Coldplay = U2 and I hate them both. One because they're a copycat, the other because they're too political (I'd like my moral judgments with a side of music pleeeeez).

Sorry, I know they're very popular, I'm just more of a Rock type. This stuff just drips of Emo.

I've never liked Coldplay. Their music is just too..... bleh. It's almost boring to listen to. Their new singles didn't do a thing for me.

I think their music has some high points, though I can't say I enjoy them across the board. 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' is mostly good stuff.

But I can say with confidence that their lyrical content is excellent.

Woa, let's slow down a second. Against me is not emo. Emo died in the 80's. Now "emo" is just crappy pop music.

What?

The use of "emo" as a musical genre wasn't even in wide use until the mid/late-90's.

Have you heard the rest of the album? There's more to it than "Viva la vida." "Death and all his friends" is pretty darn good, in my opinion. Although, I'm reminded more and more of The Beatles as they mix two or three different songs onto the same track at times.

But yes, the album in its entirety is a kind of upbeat pessimism. The world is crap, but I'm determined to change it anyway.

Does it say the person saying it is awesome? If so, I'm going to have to start using it as often as I did in high school.

My wife just told me that she read Coldplay brought in a new producer for their latest album to "lift them musically." Guess what band this guy is famous for producing in the past? U2.
