The game is fantastic so far. I played it yesterday for most of the day and had only one crash so they have fixed the stability issues seen in the open beta. I did not experience any server lag, I think i was around 75 ms delay, all day (according to the ingame lag meter).
The game is pretty, very very pretty. Being able to see PCs run around below you fighting mobs while you're on a mountain a mile away is breathtaking. The world is gritty and feels real.
I am very impressed, and quite happy so far with this mmo.
I am looking to update my vid card but dont know what to get, I am wanting the game to play smoothly but I dont want to spend a ton of money either--say $230 max, I then also want ram, have 1gig right now and am thinking about getting 2/3 more. Any help will be appreciated
Yeah, Hanta, what a change from our attempts in Open Beta, huh?
Valleja and I have had no issues with grouping (in fact, we even noticed today that we do, in fact, have little dots on the mini-map to indicate groupmates.. but it's WAY too small and it's orange.. like everything else practically).
Other than some minor grouping issues and really wanting to tweak my UI (they should have allowed us at least some scaling options - my button bars are way too big for my taste; I want to see more of the world and less of the clutter!), I'm very pleased at how well the game plays, looks, and feels from the start.

I upgraded both my wife's and my machine with eVGA nVidia 8800GTs and couldn't be more pleased... got each for around $190 ($160 w/ rebate) off of NewEgg. Memory is dirt cheap now, too, as you can get good G.Skill, 4gb (2x2gb) RAM, for only $75 there, too, which also made a noticable difference.
That's what I suggest for significant, but not overly expensive, upgrading.

I just upgraded from an XFX 7900gt to this XFX 8800gt. $158 after rebate and shipping (and it overclocks very easily).
With the following specs I was able to run Medium settings w/Shader 3.0 @ 1600x1200 with rare FPS drops below 30 through Tortage Day/Night.
4200+ AMD X2 @ 2.4ghz
2gb DDR1 RAM
XFX 8800gt
XP Pro
I'm really happy with all the fixes and features that have been made since Open Beta.
You really can't rush into those skill points willy nilly now.
The release version is a different animal than the one we complained about in beta. Yesterday my brother and I spent many gleeful hours exploring, slaughtering, and getting killed in this robust, living, breathing, and -I swear- smelling world. I'm in my mid-30's and I don't have the patience for online games aimed at a younger crowd. Hyboria is a brutal continent where extreme violence is commonplace, but that makes the beautiful aspects all the more attractive by contrast. The only lag I had was after a few alt-tabbing instances that slowed the game. Rebooting fixed it.
To duel wield or not, that is the question? Can anybody link or talk about the benefits? Thanks!

I'm so happy to hear things are going so well and that people are truly impressed with the game. It seems the debugger really hampered beta and the live version really shines. I made the mistake of reading the official boards in the first hours after EA launch and they made it seem like the launch was a complete failure.

I can't wait until Tues.
The launch surpassed all my expectations. It was delayed 3 (almost 4) hours, but the game has been rock solid. I ran into a little bit of strange latency spikes this morning around 10am Central, but other than those 3 or so minutes, the game has been awesome!
I played until 3:00am last night and was back on by 7 this morning. It has been a TON of fun.

I swear after looking at the "official" boards that 80% of those people spend their free time sniffing glue. It's simply astounding that they could be sooo wrong about so many things. One particular group of rocket surgeons called it "the worst MMO launch ever". I just don't know what to say to that level of brilliance.
On another note, I think I may have found the most imaginative guild name ever. There's a guild on Deathwhisper called: "Two Maidens, One Chalice".
To duel wield or not, that is the question? Can anybody link or talk about the benefits? Thanks!
I say not unless its the only option available. The fights are still centered around 2-3 enemies in AoC. Killing one slightly faster with the others left unscathed = either running away, dying or potion quaffing (and maybe still dying).
When grouped and angled right, 2-handed weapons do a lot of damage to secondary targets. It also helps a lot when the secondary targets get hit with your combos.
And I must add that, hot damn the Herald of Xotli is fun and has some wicked combos!
Tech note: The latest test client runs much better (read decently playable) on my work machine that only has 1gb of RAM and a crappy 128mb Nvidia GPU.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
The only bug I have is my screen is all black when I log in. No biggy I just have to go to window mode, and back to full screen to see normally. I played until 1am, and didn't have any problems other than the blackscreen. I got my templar to level 17 before running out of steam. I played a little today, but didn't level up.
We still need to see how they handle the 20th, while theres some minor problems this thing is turning out to be the hit a bunch of us in beta thought it would be.

It also depends on what class you are. Some classes (barbarians) have better combos when dual wielding and are able to do enough damage.
Hot damn, I have a flaming sledgehammer! A flaming sledgehammer! Hells yeah! The picts, PvPers and the black ones will definitely see this one coming!
Well, Cooking Mama didn't help me become a better cook, and Trauma Center certainly didn't help me become a better surgeon. I have the proof of both sitting in my freezer. -- imbiginjapan
The detail in this game is amazing. Its beyond most single player games and it's really not something most expect from a MMO. Check out the jugs on the shelf, the tiles on the floor.. the texture of everything. I love the look of my Guardian. He feels like a person, not a simple class+race combination.
One of my wife and I's bigger let-downs with WoW was the (to us) very limited character design options.
Heehee...
My toon has tattooed nipples, a crazy face design, and is pretty hawt in general. If I'm going to spend the amount of time I plan on, at least she's good looking. There are a ton of details for your character. They don't do the minutae of the facial features like a few other games have done in the past and the hues for hair and whatnot is pretty elementary, but they have sizers for most body parts.

Its got more options than Oblivion and in the end it's not nearly as hard to make a good looking character as that game was. There's a set of sliders for body shape/size, so you can scale arms, legs, shoulders etc. There's even more detail in the facial structure sliders. The 'face' options are way more than simply new textures. It changes the size and shape of the face's base, and adds an appropriate texture. Thats how I got the thick brow and a jaw to support that beard. There's hair and facial hair styles, somewhat limited color choices. The hair all has physics to make it flop and bounce and flow beautifully.

230 for a vid card, you can get the 8800 GT 512 mb video card. It should run AOC really well. Its the card I have and I max everything out mostly.

I have 2 Gb Ram. Does the game run noticeably better on 4g vs. 2 Gb?
Well, here's my actual system specs for what it's worth:
Dell Dimension XPS
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core2 Duo 2.13 Ghz
2 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS 256 Mb VRAM
Is that going to be ok - or what do you guys see as the best thing I could upgrade - if needed?

So, people already started coming out with UI modifications. Since the UI is XML based, it won't take long until we see more work like this, Werik UI.
