Good news!
I got engaged Thursday.
I've been with my girlfriend for 7 years (living together for 5 & 1/2), and I've known that she was the one after a whole two weeks, but I don't really attach much significance to marriage, so it took some less than subtle hints from her to get me to put a ring on her finger.
It was our 7th anniversary (our first date was 5/15/01), so I took the day (and the next one) off from work, and took her to the park that most of our dates were spent at. On the way, we picked up some Pizza Hut breadsticks, just like we used to take to the park. After eating, I asked her, and she cried and said, "Yes!" I didn't get down on one knee or make a speech about how much she meant to me, because that's just not me. I simply told her I had a question to ask her, sat her down, took her hand, got out the ring, and asked it. Then I took her out to dinner at a 4 star restaurant and we spend the night at the hotel that it was in. The next day, I took her to get a massage and we started calling family and friends to let them know the news.

Yeah, and even that's not as bad as I thought it'd be. Instead of changing to 5am - 5pm, it's 1pm - 1am, which is a lot easier to deal with.
