DC area S&T
Friday, May 16th, 2008 - 9:01pm
Well, I'll be in the DC area from the 19th of May until June 6th. I'll be cut off from PC gaming since I'll be in a really rural area with no access to a gaming system. The way I see it, if I can't game, I may as well be drunk. Who'd be up for a get-together somewhere in the vicinity of DC/Baltimore/Annapolis during that time-frame?

Like I said in the other thread, I tend to be around and up for a get together (assuming it's very cheap, as I'm a bit low on funds).

Where you gonna be, Cold? PM me if you don't want to broadcast. We are in Columbia MD and welcome visitors. We can accommodate your gaming jones for sure.
Extremism in the defense of liberty *is* a vice. It has been since the first Crown Loyalist was tarred, feathered and set afire, and it's no better now. It corrupts first the individual, then ultimately the institution it defends.
I up for a get together. I'm over in the Dulles area. Unfortunately I am not able to host anything, but I don't mind driving somewhere. Also I got no problem being designated driver if anyone needs it.
I'm distinctly busy Memorial Day weekend, but other than that I should be pretty open.

Well, I'm on the Eastern Shore right now and will be heading back to Colorado on June 6th. I'd definitely be up for a get-together somewhere over there on the Western Shore, although I'd prefer to stay out of downtown DC and Baltimore. Would you folks prefer a gaming get-together as Robear is suggesting, or does a kick-back-and-drink session sound like more fun?

We can do both at our place, although it is a bit messy. Didn't mean to rule out a bar visit, there's a nice place with pool nearby, I just thought I'd make the offer.

Keep me in the loop. You know where I am (or you can google it) and I can host people, especially for movies (have a small HT system...). I can also travel wherever. I'd like to avoid crossing the bridge to the eastern shore if possible but Coldstream already said he'd come our way.
We'll miss you in the gaming circle Coldstream, hopefully you'll fine some time to squeeze gaming in.

Heh, I've been a gamer for long enough that I'm not sure anything short of a nuclear apocalypse would stop me from gaming completely. Actually, perhaps not even that, if Fallout is any indication. I'll probably be able to squeeze in a bit of TF2 every now and again, but the days of being able to devote serious hours to gaming is done for a while at least.
With respect to the get-together, I think your location is pretty nice and central. I definitely don't mind heading up that way from the Eastern Shore, and hopefully it works for everyone else. Now that the Memorial Day madness has ended, what does this weekend look like for everyone? Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening?

Friday evening is traffic hell, I'd think. Saturday I can do some stuff in the afternoon, I'll have a non-GWJ friend about though. What about Sunday?

Saturday would be fine, GWJ friend or no. Sunday would work too, although I'd try to get across the bridge before the beach traffic turns Route 50 into the seething mass of inhuman suffering that it usually is on Sundays during the summer.

So is this still happening this weekend? Or do we need to push to next?

Haven't heard anything. Would be up for Sunday if we get any more interest. Next weekend won't work, however, as I'll be back in Colorado by then.

I could swing out there today (not like Laurel's far), but I've got a lot lined up for tomorrow. I might be able to come by and just meet people tomorrow, but I doubt I'd be able to stay very long.
So what were you guys thinking of doing?
IronClad Online: PurEvil
I'm thinking maybe Shoal's place on Sunday, maybe somewhere around midday? Shoal, what do you think? Tonight is probably a bit short notice for folks, as it's already 3:30pm, although I'll keep checking the thread tonight if the consensus favours an evening get-together. If it doesn't work out though, we can always do it another time. I might be back around Christmas.

I must have missed the part where Shoal tells us where he is? pm me if you like.
If it's Laurel, we could go to Shanes BBQ Shack.

In a provocative and completely unforeseen usage of website resources, it would appear that Shoal has actually used his location tag to put his...location. Which appears to be Laurel. Beyond that, I have no idea. Maybe someone with Steam (as I'm currently without it) could see if Shoal is around and find out what he'd like to do.

Good lord! Obviously I'd not suspected that.

Well, Purevil and I are about ten minutes out of Laurel, if you want to do something tomorrow.

Yeah, I'd say that unless Shoal shows up and posts here pretty soon (it's currently 7pm), then tonight is probably too short notice. Shoal, does tomorrow work for you? Alternatively, I'm here until Friday, so a weeknight is a possibility if it works for others.

It looks like I'm a bit further out from everyone else, but my Sunday plans just took a nosedive, so I'm in.

Sweet. Well, let's all plan for Sunday then, maybe hitting up Shanes BBQ Shack.
Hopefully Shoal will show up and let us know if he'll be able to join us. I'm thinking around starting midday, as I'd like to get across the bridge before the serious beach traffic shows up heading westbound across the bridge. Sound like a plan?

Hey Rob, are you on Steam at all? There's some bloke with that name, but he's in South Africa. Hopefully that's not you, because you'd have a hell of a drive tomorrow.

Nope, I had Steam back when it first came out, but I have uninstalled it since then, and I was using a different handle at the time. Also, no I have never been to South Africa. That would be one hell of a swim, though.

Okay, I'm thinking 1pm at this Shane's BBQ Shack, which is presumably Googlable. If nothing else...tasty food and a beer! Woo! I guess we can figure out what we want to do from there. I'll PM you guys my phone, so we can text/talk to make final arrangements.

I'll try to make it, but the soon to be wife, Kiri, and myself have a walkthrough at the church today at 2.
There is only an up or down--up to a man's age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order--or down to the ant heap totalitarianism,... those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.
Cool. I'll PM you my contact info to keep updated. I'm not sure what we'll end up doing after the initial meet-up at 1pm, but it'd be sweet if you guys could show up for even a little bit.

Right, I'm off out the door so I can beat the traffic. I'm heading to Shane's BBQ Shack, which my Intertubes-Fu tells me is at 13600 Baltimore Avenue in Laurel. Give me a shout on my phone if anything changes, as I won't have net access obviously. See you all there!

Damn it damn it damn it! Laurel is so close to me! Argh, stupid Salisbury Starbucks and their stupid work making me stupid work when I'm not stupid supposed to.
Sorry guys, I really wish I could make it.
Yet even then we ran like the wind,
whilst our laughter echoed under cerulean skies...
Okay, so we'll be there around 1pm, hanging out for a while. I've got a ponytail and a white T-shirt and glasses, look for us. If you miss us, pm me - I'll check when we get back and send you my phone contact info (or you can send yours.)

Coldstream has an unnatural hatred of hobbits.
IronClad Online: PurEvil
Heh. He does indeed. If he gets Lotro, you'll only see him on as Creeps, prowling the hobbit village and cackling as he picks off outlying victims. Although, truth be told, Rob was cackling too.
Paleo and I met Coldstream for a fine BBQ lunch in Laurel, were joined by RobAnyone, and then repaired to Manse Robear for a little Wiilaxation. Much trash talking ensued, especially when a brief T-storm flushed out the Rocub and one of his friends. After a dubious performance by all in Mario Kart, the young rapscallions forced a change to Smash Bros and after a large amount of noisy and mysterious hyperkinetic motion, were consistent winners in that inscrutable conflict. It was a mystery to us, anyway, while they seemed to walk corridors familiar to them from the content of dreams.
After that, it was a quick tour of Middle Earth, culminating in the release of a new spider against the Freeps, where the above-mentioned hobbit-munching ensued. Purevil arrived and stayed, observing aloofly, until a call from home sent him scurrying to pick up his wife's lapdog from, I don't know, the toe-painter or something. (Pure, we've got your man-card here, you can pick it up anytime.) As evening stretched and started to settle in, Cold and Rob decided to begin their homeward journeys, Rob to the wilds of the West by a uniquely subterranean airport, and Cold crossing back over the Bay on a sweeping arm of concrete and steel. And so we close another DC S&T. May we meet again soon!
