Woo!

Michael Ancel at the helm, once again. It's apparently been in some form of production for over a year now. It's still all on paper, but I assume he wouldn't be talking about it if it wasn't pretty likely to go into full swing? I don't know, he might just be being open about all possibilities, but I hope his talking about it means things are at least looking up.

Nice. I loved the first title, it's too bad it fell between the cracks. Ancel does great stuff.

Cool. The original was recently released on steam btw. I leant my discs to my sis-in-law and never got them back.

I just read about this not ten minutes ago. I just hope it gets released, preferably for the Wii.

Oh yay! Maybe this is the start of a trend of games that were designed for sequels but failed financially getting sequels anyway! *crosses fingers for Anachronox 2*

Well we know what happened to the first game when Ancel favored the nintendo gamecube. The glitches were the worst on that system compared to the XB or PS2.

Ancel has already gone on the record that his next game is on the Wii. His studio hasn't produced a game since the first Rabbits game, so I am willing to bet it's on the Wii.

I played the first one on the GC and didn't notice the glitches...it played just fine for me.

It's not just on paper anymore. At Ubisoft the 'concept phase' is where the paper is - and it's possible for a project to already get cancelled there. Pre-production means that they're already working with prototypes.

When I worked at EB games I would get quite a few returns on the GC verision because either the wavebird stopped responding to the game or it would corrupt save games.

I didn't hear about that at all, and I don't remember it being a big deal on the forums at the time. Wow...

This is fantastic news. The first game was a true gem. I have to say though, given how badly it performed, I am stunned they would fund another one. Though one thing I always remembered was that Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft was actually the Producer on the first game, a role you never see him credited for. That always led me to believe he had a much more personal connection to that project and that it might have led to a sequel coming. I'm really glad to see that happened, though I obviously have no idea is that's why.

I really think I'll have to pick up the first game soon -- I always meant to, but it was just one of those games that I never got around to. Given that I have a PS2, Wii, and 360, what's the best platform to get it on? It looks like it does work under Wine, too, so PC might be an option, though I haven't checked if the Steam release is available down here.

You know I am surprised they haven't released it on XBLA or XB Classics, whatever they call it. Anyhow they released psychonaughts, why not BG&E? I think that would boost its revenue considerably. Granted that might lead people to think that a sequel is coming to 360, but who cares.

Same here. I've never even heard anything about glitches in the GC version.

EDIT: Is this the glitch you're talking about?

How does the PC version control? Does it play nicely with a 360 controller? I made two false starts on the Xbox version, and wouldn't mind making a third attempt.

Kotaku reports here that: "Ancel says the game - if it's ever approved by Ubisoft, that is - will be for the PS3 and 360." So no Wii exclusive, that's for sure

I heard it works well...but I haven't tried it. I managed to get to work well baaaaaaack in the day using some emulation software:

Why the frowny face? I like the idea of better graphics and no obligation to include waggle.

What does this mean?

Was it considered to be released as a sequel for the failed Phone/game machine? Or is he referring to an inside joke?

Well I have a Wii, and only a Wii, so that is Reason #1.

Reason #2 is that I feel gameplay would benefit from being Wii only. Gameplay in the original was great. Ancel seems clever enough to put some great, well thought out and polished Wiimote improvements in there... More than the obligatory waggle.

That said, I'm excited that a sequel is being considered/made/whatever.

It played great with a 2 stick logitech PC game pad. I didn't finish it on the PC but made it about 40% through. I suppose I should reinstall it and finish it now.

EDIT: Apparently, I'm a dirty rotten liar, or maybe I've just killed too many brain cells with alcohol and lost some memory. I just reinstalled it and it's not working with my logitech pad or my 360 controller. I didn't try the mod Sku Boi listed though.

I played it all the way through with the mouse and keyboard, and I had no problems at all. On the other hand, I'm a PC gamer, born and raised, so if you're more of a console guy you might prefer to stick with one.

I never understood why people had such a love for this game. From the dissapointing story to the shallow gameplay, the tedious stealth portions and the fact that the game clearly was shipped in an unfinished state (I recall even half the treasure and specialty items you required to finish the game were always stuck in these huge yet vacant rooms), the whole thing was a complete mess.

Your favourite game is over-rated.

God I loved BG&E, and after those last 30 seconds, I was very disappointed to learn there wouldn't be a sequel. Until now! Wee!

YAY!

I mean...ahem...this is great news.

I loved the first game, I found it to be just...incredibly charming. I was charmed in much the same way as I was charmed by adventure games of yore like TLJ and Syberia.

There are two less copies of this game circulating in the world because of me and my gaming vault(PS2 and XBOX), but the two or three times I have tried to get into it.... I always get sidetracked.

I will finish BGE one of these days... I WILL! Maybe the announcement of a sequel release date will be enough to push me over the edge and make some progress.
