NCSoft Profits Down 43%

I hear nothing but bad news for these guys and so I find it utterly baffling that they've stopped working on their most successful franchise (Guild Wars) and are turning its sequel into a WoW clone. It's like they're intentionally throwing away the one thing they really got right.

GW2 seems to be another hit from everything i've read. Plus i think Lineage2 is their biggest hit not GW.
They've got Aion coming out this or next year which is tracking to be a semi descent hit. They're also teamed up with Sony for 1 or 2 MMO's. As for the drop it's probably the loss of revenue from the other games they dropped this year.
This doesn't seem to be a surprise or a big deal.

Weren't their profits down due to the expenses they're putting into their next big release? How is that bad news?
Well they dropped out of the next big one... can't remember the name right now but it was space themed. I'm sure that caused the biggest chunk to drop. They also stopped Auto Assault. Which it was down to nothing revenue wise i'm sure which is why they dropped it.

I could have sworn I saw a link on Massively the other day specifically talking about how NCSoft does not want to make WoW clones and sees the need for diversification in the genre?

Yeah... and instead they will make Lineage clones, yay!
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
They can say that all they like, but for GW2 they're replacing everything that made Guild Wars unique with stuff you can find in WoW.

BF2142 Stats
As far as Guild Wars, how much of that is really NCSoft? ArenaNet are the guys who do all of the work. All told Guild Wars has sold like 4 million copies? That aside, when I think of some of the big costs NCSoft has incurred lately, that number is not surprising. Tabula Rasa was not the 400-500k that was hoped for. The publisher shelled out a lot of money to buy City of Heroes/Villains. Auto Assault was shut down, that is all around lost money.
