AoC: Initial Goals
It's not Saturday yet, is it? /sigh
So, what are people out here setting as their initial goals within AoC? Leveling, PvP Ranking (levels), Policing, going Alt Crazy (trying to figure out what class they plan on playing), Guild Formation & Organization, Exploration, Ganking, finding that special gaybeardating someone... etc…
My initial goals will be to level fairly quickly while still maintaining some immersion in the story. This is in hopes to get to a point where I can help establish the guild and work towards Guild City building. PvP, even on PvP servers, will be something I only do as necessary or as called upon. Exploration will come naturally (I hope) as will learning the game’s mechanics.
I’d really like to have some meat on my bones (levels), see the guild established and strong, and have a good grasp of my character’s class mechanics & abilities so that I can play it most effectively before jumping into any serious PvP (of any type on any server).

I am playing this one for the pvp.
Guild cities, raiding, rank, and the rest all support that goal.
PVP will support my new fondness for making PVP videos.

Wow, yes to all of the above?
First and foremost, I actually want to read quests this time around, instead of going "yadda yadda - wowhead it!" That means my 1-20 will be a little slower, but I'm ok with that. Exploration is also a key factor, I'm one of those weirdos who likes to pan the camera around taking epic screenshots to justify my nerdism. Think me, top of a cliff, wind blowing through my hair, and one mega vanity pose. Once the noob factor has worn off and I know the mechanics more, I still don't plan to rush to 80. I want to be able to hop in and help others quest, do a bunch of fun dungeons, and do some PvP here and there. The journey, especially when starting out, is still hands down way better than any end game. I also have a raving alt addiction as I've proved with WoW, and I like to collect classes like Pokemon - I'm going to try as hard as I can to have one main to focus on but I'm sure I will be dazzled by other shiny classes along the way.
Now for the end game, after the 275 or so hours they claim it will take, I plan to focus on making the Guild successful. Guild Cities, PvP, you name it. Dungeons will be high on my list too, but only if they don't turn into the massive headache that came from organizing WoW raids. I will definitely plan to attend raids, but they will go on the back burner for real life stuff.

I suspect the PvP will be completely broken for a while and people will be dying left and right, so I will use a PvE server to actually, you know, play the game.
Swat, I am with you on the screen shots. I am always in search of that perfect desktop background.

My initial goals on the RP-PVP server is to act like I think RPing is speaking in an elizabethian accent. Then after that gets old (five minutes tops), Exploration and exciment await as I raace towards using my mammoth!

I am with you, Swat. I plan on following the story as I play. But, then again, even in Beta I read all the options, considered my choices, and kept my character's personality (as it were) in mind. It's one of the reasons I really enjoy LotRO and AoC brings the same living world to us.
I suppose the PvP side of things won't be quite my focus, like some others out there, because I realize I won't be great at it at first (some of that will be the class I have chosen - PoM). Therefore, I'd like to develop my character and get to understand all the spells, skills, and feats involved, before putting myself to the ultimate test. I don't want to end up treading water at level 20 trying to learn PvP when I could be learning the game while still progressing the story and character.
In the end, though, the thing I enjoy most about these games is the social aspect. Getting together to assault some dungeon, tackle some rival faction, or strike at griefers - that's what I look forward to the most. Thus, seeing the guild grow stronger, building up its city, and rallying folks behind some sort of epic raids (both PvE & PvP) sound like the best of times to me.

I will take my ranger and chop off heads of pirates.
Im looking forward to the city building and trades and pvp. Since combat is all real time and players can circle strafe as they will not benefit from full combat. This will make combat a lot more based on what you wear and players skill.
Only reason i want to play this game is cause of the combat system. Without it, I would not even try playing this game.
I was thinking I'll roll a Barbarian and crush my enemies, drive them before me and listen to the lamentation of their women!
OH, and if punching camels is an available action I want to do that ASAP.

I came so close to doing the same, but i'll be starting with my Ranger. I'll be trying to level as quick as i can. Plus sending as many souls as possible up to Crom to explain their weakness along the way.

My initial goal is to choose a class to play as my main.

Has anyone seen any write-ups on what the Crafting Professions are going to be like at release? Or was that kept pretty much under wraps and we'll have to discover it for ourselves at launch?
I've got a fondness for creation... and the whole LotRO crafting system with the chance to make items of unique nature has me wishing I was deeper into the game. I'm hoping there's some possibility that AoC will offer some extra dynamics to creatables outside of "grind this to max and then come talk to me."

On Crafting, there's the write up from the main site here and a video here
I wish there were more. It's hard to tell just how different it will be from the grind in a game like WoW. They say all progression is quest based, which is fine, but if the quest is 'make 100 swords and come talk to me' every time, then it's really no better.
I do like that every character will be able to advance -every- gathering skill. No worrying about whether to pick gathering for cash or which one to get. Picking ONE profession out of the available ones will be hard though. My main may go Armorsmith, slight possibility of Architect or Gemcutter instead.
I could swear I read something that said resources could only be gathered in 'gathering zones' and that these zones were PVP enabled, but I can't find that again. Maybe it was cut, or my brain is playing tricks.
My major goals are to get a sword, get a shield, get a horse, and help get our guild city going. I want to be there when the keep goes up

My goal is to initially roll a character on WHATEVER server we decide to play on. Then to keep pace with the average leveling of the rest of the guild. I'd like to help build the guild city - get to 40 for Mammoth time - all before I log off from my initial play session, too much?

From my time spent in the open beta, the only places I saw resources was in a "gathering zone", the Purple Lotus Swamp. I never once saw any kind of resource in any of the "main" zones.

I'm in this purely because of the guild - I don't care at all about the SP experience (I love role-playingwith other people, but "role-playing" by yourself seems a lot like another solitary act I won't name), although I'm sure I'll enjoy the pretty sights along the way. So I'll be trying to hit level 20 as fast as possible and develop skills that will be useful to the guild. I'll focus on crafting skills (if there's a way to favor them) and since I'm planning to be a Guardian I will want to get my Perception as high as it can be to keep outsiders from giving us a nasty surprise.
I also need to just get my head around the nuances of how a MMORPG works, since I've never really been interested in the genre until AoC and GWJ were part of the equation.

Crafting and the like starts at 40.
I suggest that everyone let people know when they reach level 20 or earlier. In AoC because of the amount of mobs you can chew through as a group teaming up will help speed up the leveling curve after 20.
While you can fly through and hit 20 quickly the leveling rate drops dramatically after that.

Gathering starts at 20, doesn't it? In the open beta I was able to start prospecting. There were several others that I saw (but didn't actually try to take).

I guess gathering could be at 20. I've only been to Old Tarantia and Connal Valley areas. I did loot leather pieces from wargs/wolves which seemed to be crafting type stuff, but they didn't go into the crafting section in the inventory.

Fortunately it's something completely different now. I'm blocking that previous issue from my mind!
Unfortunately, they don’t give us much on crafting, do they? The scantest of overviews, at best.
It seems a bit odd, but I suppose Armorsmithing will have to cover Tailoring, Leatherworking, and Blacksmithing. I don’t believe all classes get the same access to all types of armor, do they? My priest only had access to cloth and light armor, so unless that changes…
No food making, either. We need to buy or find them, I suppose.
I kind of which they had allowed for some arcane crafting, too, such as scrolls or limited use items (wands, for example).
Architecture sounds interesting, at least, from a guild contributing point of view.
Hopefully, they’ll expand upon what’s possible in the future.

Actually, I would like to get on (does anyone know what CST start time really is for over here?) from the get-go, level as quickly as I can through about 20 and get the guild started as fast as possible so that when the non-prescrubs do get on, we can have the doormat out and ready to go. After that, I hope to help out a few of our quickstarters that missed out on the pre-order get through the wilds of the Underhalls and the White Sands without too much bloodshed (this might be a bit of policing) while also racking up a few PvP experience points of my own. Of course, coming into the closed beta so late, I have no idea how to formally start the guild, so I'll be leaning on ol' Ranalin to help us all through that on the Wild West server.
I want to get to my mount, just so I can play around with my elephant on 'roids for a bit and enjoy being a retarded chump with 5 tons of hair hanging beneath his nuts. After that, I'll do a good mix of levelling and PvPing and hang with my guildies as much as possible.
After playing the barbarian in the beta, I really, really like her. Once they hit 15, they really start to get fun.

It's the 3rd Icon located in the upper left corner of the screen. When you hit 20 you can click on this and it'll bring up the prompt to create guild. All the prompts there are pretty straight forward. The one thing that is different and i never saw an explanation for it. Government Style. It had 4 choices. Each race and Nemedian. I suspect this effects the look of your guild city, but don't know for sure.
