You think? Bit of a longshot. Are many people even aware of the concept of Libertarianism?

I would say there is a good chunk of the voting public at least aware of the concept.

I don't know how well known he is in conservative circles (not being in conservative circles makes judging this difficult), but if he runs a pretty good campaign he could be Naderesque with 1-2% of the vote.

He engineered and successfully led the Clinton impeachment. I would think that makes him remarkably well known in conservative circles.

Depends, I suspect in strong democartic states, he'll take a good deal more of the vote than that. The conservative wing of the Republican party is very unhappy right now, McCain tossed a few crumbs their way when he had competition, then he's made a beeline for the other side of the aisle the moment he got the nod.

I think he'll have a tremendous impact on McCain's chances in the South. Many Southern Conservatives will flock to him, leaving their state likely in the Democrats hands (unless there is a spoiler on the Liberal side of the fence, too -- Nader does not seem to count any more).

I don't know if it will end up being Naderistic, but it's another reason that Hillary must be pounding her head against the wall tonight. Democrats are never going to have a better shot at the White House, and she just can't get the nomination. It must be killing her inside.

Sweet.

I like it. Maybe just for the fact its an attempt to break the 2 party system which makes no sense to me as a Canadian where theres a party for everything. We just need Nader to run also then Hillary to spin off and have a 5 person race of the ages! (with Obama winning though ;P)

Yeah, but I bet he isn't a public breast licking Libertarian!

His candidacy throws a wild card into the White House race that many believe could peel away votes from Republican Sen. John McCain given the candidates' similar positions on fiscal policy.

Uhhh ... what? heh. His fiscal policy, as far as I can tell, bears no relation whatsoever to McCain's. I'd love to know the basis behind this statement.

As a libertarian, I'd have some reservations about voting for this guy, but he's so much better than either of the mainstream candidates that I'll probably end up supporting him. I'm especially concerned about his record vs. drug enforcement, Iraq, and the PATRIOT Act.

Well, he doesn't think much of atheists. He's just a frustrated Republican looking for a way to run. And frankly, the damage he did with the Clinton impeachment makes me question his judgement in general.

This page may be of interest.

Yup. His empassioned advocacy of the Defense of Marriage Act sort of makes him a pretty selective "libertarian".

Yes, as does his appearance to speak in front of a white supremacist group - he says he didn't know who they were before he agreed to speak, which I'd say definitely shows issues with judgement, though he's distanced himself from them effectively. Basically, it comes down to whether or not you believe in his Libertarian conversion, since there's no record from when he was not a Republican.

I'm willing to listen to what he has to say, but I remain extremely skeptical.

You mean Bob Barr did that too? I just don't like the way he looks. Something about him is just not right. Highly scientific, I know.

Some of the questions were kind of vague, and I disagreed with what they said the "hardcore Libertarian" answer was, until I looked at the question a different way then I had when I took the test.

Weird test. They define political ideologies... strangely - fiddling with some of the stranger questions, I noticed coal is apparently a conservative issue? Anyway:

Well, I'm in a good place. I won't be voting for Barr, he's a republican not a libertarian.

I'd guess that sort of depends on your definition of "conservative," but he's certainly courting moderates either way.
