Looks absolutely awesome. I'm definitely liking that they've expanded the color palette from the dull grays that dominated the first game. If you can, get this off the marketplace and watch it on an HDTV, very very impressive.

Just downloading it on Marketplace now, but I played it from GameTrailers before and it looked fantastic. From my reckoning, I'd estimate it's at least 57% more badass.

The color palette looks exactly the same as the first game to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I like that they aren't messing with what works, but they add subtle enhancements, i.e. "take guy hostage" thing, and some weapon functionality I haven't seen before, I think.

Due to engine optimizations, the number of max enemies on screen has greatly increased for that "epic feel" , reminding me of the difference between Doom I and Doom II: Hell On Earth.

I dunno, looks more colorful to me. Either way it's looking like a good time.

Wooo, just finished watching this - looks incredible! I'm especially impressed with the performance compared to the original. There's a lot more going on in this short trailer than in any scene from the first game and yet it looks like it's running faster.

Yes there is. The Gears of War art direction is terrible, everything's a muddy grey that makes it difficult to tell friend from foe.

I have to say there's an impressive amount of stuff going on in that video though.

"The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all."

Watching this made me want to get a 360 again. Gears was however the only franchise Microsoft has that I actually like though so probably not. The ability to use guys as shields now and then later snap their necks was a nice addition. Plus that level looks pretty goddamn epic.

I noticed at least 3 new weapons. Oh, and the ability to use Locust as shields. Awesome.

Actually the chainsaw duel idea is one I really don't like, assuming they implement it the way I expect them to.

I imagine it will be one of those see who can jam on the button faster deals that I wish developers had gotten over about ten years ago.

Otherwise it looks cool. I'm sure I'll be in for a bunch of co-op and some multiplayer for the first two weeks until I realize the netcode hasn't changed and the gameplay still has the same problems.

So when someone runs at you with a revved chainsaw... don't rev yours? Hey, just do nothing. I'll be grateful.

So I wasn't the only one who thought there was a quicktime event at the beginning. I thought those were well implemented in Shenmue 2, but I've grown to hate them in most every other game. As far as chainsaw duels, it did indeed look like the button mash-fest was needed to win. I really wish they'd implement something more subtle, maybe a Street-fighter style combo that sweeps the enemy and impales them or something.

Here are videos that break down the trailer and point out all the easter eggs. From what I picked up:

- Lancer has a longer barrel and a scope, probably more accurate
- triple shot is now semi-auto, can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger
- "Gorgon Burst Pistol" shoots in 6 round bursts

I'm not so excited about the campaign as I am about the multiplayer. I've beaten General RAAM on insane by myself 3-4 times, so Gears 2 better be a step up in difficulty.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Oh god I agree. One thing that gives me hope though is that they didn't resort to button mashing for the active reload and went for a timing mini-game instead. Which was a brilliant mechanic as far as I'm concerned. Maybe they'll do something similar for those duels. Probably even, considering button mashing over the internet wouldn't be reliable at all.

P.S. Could I spend a few minutes with sharp instruments and the guy that coded the Javascript that brings the freakin italic tag each time I wanna type "I". Please?

It's not a quicktime event at the beginning. He's standing next to the Trokia and and it's telling him to press X to use it, just like in the first Gears.

Looks solid as ever. The whole flocking tech they've implemented really does up the epic feel of the game, even if it's all window dressing. Looking forward to when this drops to see all the improvements to multiplayer that damn well better be in there.

Gears was too short, yet I was already a little tired of it by the time it ended. I hope they make the campaign in this one compelling. And, you know, coherent. Or I guess they could just send me to another totally unexplained secret labratory in my dead father's mansion for no reason.

Instead of button mashing they should take their already great active reload system and use that. Whoever gets closest to the middle of the sweet spot gets the saw kill.

The biggest problem with button mashing is that it's an auto-win for anyone with one of those modded rapid-fire controllers.

What kind of palette, exactly, would you expect a post-apocalyptic world to have ? I thought the palette suited the setting perfectly and made it seem more real.

Trailer looks amazing!! between this and Fallout 3 my holiday season just got better...Microsoft really needs to invest in some dedicated servers for their first party games, what is that 60 dollars a year paying for anyway? Oh well can't wait to play it either way.
