Tooting My Own Horn: Raccoon Fink Music Available
Monday, May 5th, 2008 - 1:19pm
I've been writing music for a long time, but TuneCore has made it stupid simple to do digital distribution and get your music on Amazon, iTunes, etc., so I've finally gotten around to doing it.
You can download my single, Pointillize from Amazon MP3, and it will be on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and others very soon (Amazon is faster at provisioning than the other services).
I also have an album (called "Finally"
) coming out on May 20th. If you'd like a preview, you can hear it at last.fm.
Let me know what you think!

I like it a lot! What kind of gear are you using?
Xbox Live: CrankyBaby
baggachipz: Who cares about Japan, let them have their silly pointless dog games and countless re-hashes of anime-based dragon princess super lucky crapitty crap.
Thanks!
Everything was written in Impulse Tracker (see the Wikipedia entry on Tracker music if you've never heard of it, it's a long story). I exported everything to wave, used Garage Band and ProTools to mix it down, and Izotope Ozone for mastering. I can't say enough good things about Ozone, it's simply incredible for getting that "finished" sound.
I play a little bass, got a nice 88-key keyboard for Christmas, and am in the market for a good guitar (my wife got me a guitar IOU for my birthday) so I can start doing more performance in addition to sequencing, but tracking has served me well for a long time.
Impulse Tracker is now 14 years old, and while I don't use it directly anymore, I still used Schism Tracker (an open-source reimplementation of it) quite heavily to finally get my album put together.

Learning a tracker has long been on my list of things to do, but I don't know if I could muster the discipline at this point. I'm impressed that you were able to get such good sounding results with those tools.

Pretty good stuff RR. I can easily see a bunch of those songs in some game soundtracks.
Track 11 has a very "Dali-esque" feel to it, namewise.

=) You must admit, it's a pretty appropriate name.

Something solid and metal, perhaps?
Teehee. Sorry, just had to snake that reference in. Oh damn.

Congrats, RR. I've added you as a friend on Last.FM and will be listening to your tunes when I've got some free time. I've got some tunes up on LastFM as well, but I need to revisit them and set them all to free (they're all really old stuff). I'm working on a ton of new stuff as well - it would be cool to have a GWJ Musicians-sharing-their-music thread...
Hah, yeah, that would be really cool. Yours is one of the few friend requests I've had that isn't some 40-year-old-guy living in his basement pretending to be a hot Russian model who wants to be my friend!

How do you know they aren't a hot Russian model? Did you ask for pics?

It's not that they don't have pics, it's that they got them from some other hot Russian model.

FYI, I've decided to do a limited (50-CD) run of physical disks, so I had to actually put cover art together.
Turned out pretty good. Not sure how I'll sell them yet, CDBaby, maybe, but step one is sending one out to Allmusic, Pandora, etc. Anyways...
Front (that's our deck & back yard, and Impulse Tracker, the software I use to write my music):
Inside cover (Eilean Donan castle in Scotland, from my honeymoon):
Back cover (our back yard at dusk):
CD (my Sennheiser HD-600's I spent way too much on to master the CD, since there's no room for good studio monitors here):
