PS360 crossplatform-play

It's a typical "lolwut" topic, especially given Microsoft's traditional stance on this and them only allowing 360/PC via Xbox/GFW Live - but the funny thing is that it actually might happen. Let's just say I've heard about one bigger company trying to get it done for one of their more important brands, and they probably wouldn't be trying it without Microsoft's permission. Brings up some questions as to how it exactly that would work since XBL specific-service features such as voice-chat and the like aren't supported by PSN, and I don't know the full details yet - but if they get it done, you might see it in action later this year already.

I'd like to see this happen. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest to let it happen though. Except for gamers, but when did we ever matter

This would actually be quite helpful for Sony in North America, assuming the game was a big deal. Since the 360 has a higher install base than PS3, the majority of cross-platform games are bought on 360. Those who have both a PS3 and 360 then usually buy the game on 360 because they want to be able to play online with their friends.
How many more people here would've bought GTA4 on PS3 rather than 360 if it let you play online with people on both consoles?
If I had a PS3, I still would've bought it on 360 instead, just because of the Achievements and the DLC coming later in the year, but still.
What many people don't realize is that Da Vinci actually painted the Mona Lisa with his dick. As a joke. That's what makes the Mona Lisa art. Otherwise, it's just some stupid painting of an ugly chick.
When I had expendable income way back when, I would have copies of games for multiple systems, like Forsaken for the N^64 and PSX, Mortal Kombat 2 for the SNES and 32X, Aladdin for the SNES and Genesis (some others I have forgotten about). Now that the cross-platform games are virtually identical, save graphics, the 360's community (at least until the verdict on Home on PS3 is out) trumps the PS3.

FF11 had to bypass Live entirely in order to support cross-platform, right?

That's correct. Obviously, Microsoft was OK with that since they then could claim that "Final Fantasy is coming to Xbox". At least at that point this was more important to them. The project I'm referring to is not an MMOG, just btw.
Oh, the possibilities!
Actually, after playing Shadowrun I'm not sure what the advantage to this would be. I can think of maybe 2-3 instances where PS360 interplay was the only way I could play with my friends. Counter that to the hundreds and hundreds of 360 online games I've played. Make that thousands.
Would be nice, though. One less "orifice to crawl through."
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Would i be wrong in predicting that it's an EA game? Don't all their games run off of their own servers?

I can only imagine the fanboy fuel this would throw on the "console warz" fire.

I just hope that a top priority on this is integration with existing systems and friends lists. I'd hope it would monitor your PSN and XBL friends, and keep a unified list within the game, and support linking of both PSN and XBL accounts.
I guess it seems cool, but not if it means losing my XB friends list in the process. That seems like it would be a step backward over existing systems.
