Sweet. I've been meaning to give it a try on pc. I like the 360 version a lot, but never really got comfortable playing shooters with a mouse and keyboard, so I haven't picked it up yet.

This is awesome. I think this will make the GWJ Tf2 community even bigger. More nights to play! Woot!
Sorry, but I just need more than Monday and Friday nights.
You guys wont be sorry for downloading this for the PC.
Thanks for standin' still Wanker!

It's honestly not so much that I'm young, it's that I never really had much interest in shooters until Halo 2 came out and I had a bunch of friends playing. So I got into the controls from that. It also has the unfortunate side-effect that I feel disoriented in any first person game where I can't look down and see my feet.

It runs okay on almost every system.

Is the quality of play on Stan's Lounge at a level where a lame-o noob like me would kind of be a drag on the teams? I've played a bunch of TF2 on 360 but held off on the PC version since my gaming rig is old and crappy. But I did pick it up on Steam a couple weeks ago when it was $10 off and it plays okay enough. I've been playing pubbies but haven't jumped onto a goodjer server yet since I figured the skill level is well beyond me and I didn't want to jump in as a relative noob. Maybe this free weekend is a good opportunity to get my feet wet with the goodjer TF2 elite?

I'm in the same position Parsley - I just picked up the Orange Box for Episode 2 and Portal and now that I've finished both I've started to think that I'll try TF2. I'm not a online shooter fan - I can't remember the last one that I played very much of since the original Quake was released - so my skill level is about as low as it can go. But I would love to play a little more if I could somehow avoid the childishness the drove me into only playing solo games in the first place years ago except for the odd MMORPG.
If you've been scanning the epic TF2 thread on the site, I can see how you might be intimidated to come onto Stan's lounge, but as long as you're willing to learn and (key point here) communicate, you'll be welcome with open arms. Get a mic and just admit up front that you're a hopeless n00b. Kidding, but just say "Hi, I'm new to the game, so I might not be the most competent player right now". Hook up with someone who knows where they're going, and have them give pointers along the way. We're a friendly group, especially to the folks that speak up. If someone comes on the server that we don't recognize, we might be a bit standoffish, especially if they never say anything or don't seem to be working for the team.
TF2 is the first multiplayer shooter I have gotten into because its really accessible but also really deep. And the community is great. If you're trying TF2 for the first time this weekend, I'll bet you'll plunk down $30 by the end of the weekend.

Another thing for the guys worried about their performance (queue Cialis add)
You can also jump onto the server early to check maps out and to get a feel of how it plays. More often than not if someone sees someone on the server you may get someone jumping in and just let them know you're new and you'll probably get some pointers and practice in a non hectic environment.

Agreed 100%. I usually get home around 7:00 (EST) and starting playing TF2. I'm constantly checking Stan's to see if someone is on. If even one person jumps on, I jump on as well and we usually have fun playing all melee or something else as ridiculous. However, if you jump on just ask for advice I'll be more that happy to give it. I love helping people out. I'll give you all the pointers I can think of.

I think anyone new to TF2 should definitely feel comfortable playing on Stan's.
We're about fun, not just score and stats.
Some of us get wrapped up in those things and more, but overall, the fun is the important part.
Just know that, like any shooter, you'll get owned early and often, but on Stan's, you'll learn faster and better.
And there's lots of other good servers, too, for when you just need to practice without worrying about Tempest sniping you from across the map when you're a scout sprinting behind cover. I love the challenge, Tempest, but you're a beast.
Anyway, all the new people, load up and get on. It's a blast, even if you suck like me.

any idea if the "new low price" is permanent, or will it go back up once the promo weekend ends?
"Also, I have four legs and am covered in wool. Baa!" *Legion* reveals his inner furry.
Usually the weekend sales are labeled as weekend sales.
I can't promise anything, but if it says "new low price" rather than "weekend special", it's probably about as permanent as anything in pricing/sales.

In short, get it.
It looks like the goodjer hivemind has found a new addiction, that could last awhile.

If you've been playing on the 360, it shouldn't be that difficult of a transition to the PC version (if you also know your WASD basics). I had the most trouble being an Engineer and Spy since I wasn't sure how to switch weapons/devices. But Medic (my usual class) plays pretty much the same on the PC as the 360, since you don't really have to aim with the healing gun. I've got 7 of the new Medic achievements just from playing like I normally do (mostly public servers, a little on Stan's). I don't think I'll get enough achievements for the new weapons before the free weekend is over, but I've been having fun.
I do have to say that I really like Goldrush and wish it was out for the Xbox.

They just lowered the price for Orange box to $39.99 now I'm gonna have to buy it.

They lowered both, and if I wanted TF2 I'd get orange box because, I'd want portal, and episode 2 too.
