Official GTA IV Catch All

Now that Grand Theft Auto IV is finally hitting shelves, it's time for a fresh thread with actual game impressions and multiplayer shenanigans. Let's try to keep it centered around playing rather than hand-wringing over review scores.

I got mine today from a friend who is an indy retailer, and have spent a couple of hours playing offline. So far, so samey, really, but I've only driven around a bit and done a couple of the early missions. The phone is a nice addition, since it is a bit more interactive than the phones and pagers from previous games. I've been bowling, which isn't exactly Wii Sports.
I'm sure things will pick up in a bit. The game looks great, though I hope that the environments move on from "grimey inner city" pretty soon. Driving is a bit annoying, but it could be because everything I've nicked so far is cheap tat. I'm looking for supercars and motorbikes!

I'll have to stand in the rain tonight to get it. But I'm pretty excited

I already have plans for tomorrow night, so I can't pick up my pre-order until Wednesday. My roommate has been working through Dead Rising, so I might have to kick her off then. In the meantime, I look forward to the impressions of others, particularly those like myself who aren't already GTA-crazy but still think this iteration is interesting enough to have a go.

What system is everyone picking this up on? PS3 supposedly looks prettier, but the 360 has Live.

I paid for a reserve at 5:45 at Gamestop and then went back at 6 to get a pickup receipt for 12:01a.m. There were 2 guys sitting on lawn chairs outside the door (which seemed completely unnecessary). I'm hoping there won't be too many people when I get there.

Really? I haven't gotten that vibe, although, perhaps I should roll by the local GameStop before Karate tonight. But I hadn't been paying that much attention until roughly a week ago.
From what Spider said, and what the GT review, I do admit, i'm having a little trepidation about missions being a little too samey ("Go kill this guy!" "Okay!") but then again, that's GTA in a nutshell. Since i'm a easily led consumer whore, i'll be hitting GameStop tonight to pick up my copy.

Pred I've only really got my gut instinct on this, but it's easily as big a game as Halo 3 at launch, and it is launching simultaniously on 2 platforms. Best to probably scout it out.

Hah, same email here. Actually, I expanded my plan to 4 games today because my wife is hogging two of my spots (with her copy of Rainbow Six: Vegas, as well as Professor Layton for her DS). My third spot is currently filled with Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, so I bumped up my account and GTA4 shipped. Whee!

I vote for tuesdays! I won't play online until I complete the game. Except with fellow Goodjers. The clan gamertag picked up 10 more people today. For a total of 36 Goodjers! We can play Wed. night the first week and tuesdays each week afterwards?

In regards to the MP, I'm good for any day.
Has anyone tried to get into the Social Club. I forgot my user and pass and don't see a way to retrieve them.

All I've got to say is this game is Not Kid Safe (NSFW). What you have linked there is the IGN video that Jack Thompson is using to smear the game in the media right now.
In the video the player alternates between getting lap dances from the best paid strippers in the world and then hunting down said strippers with sadism. I'm not sure how I feel about that video, I sorta wonder if I just watched video games' equivalent to Birth of a Nation.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I've been on a 99.9% media blackout for this puppy, so it's all going to be a shock. The guy's some Russian dude right? Yep, that's about all I know. Look forward to playing some great multiplayer with you guys on the weekend (or sooner!). I tried to get Tuesday off so I could hit the midnight launch at the Future Shop in town, but no dice, so I'll be a weekend warrior.
