NY/Metro Area Slap n' Tickle - The Re-Drunkening
Sunday, April 27th, 2008 - 4:57pm
I caught Video Games Live in in the City on Friday, and I found myself thinking about how much damn fun we'd had during the last NY Slap n' Tickle. It almost being may now, I imagine it's a good time to start throwing out feelers for another one this summer.
So, anyone interested for another go-round? Mayhap some new faces this time? A new venue? I'm open to anything here, as long as drinking is involved somewhere along the line.

It's almost summer? All depends on screwy scheduling.

I'm in.... and I vote for barcade, because it's the most obvious choice. Plus they have a lot of great beers. And games.

Sounds like fun to me.
Thanks for standin' still!

Also, NYC is about 3 hours or so for me, depending on traffic in NJ and/or public trans. I might be available if someone can house me. I'm clean and I don't smoke.

It depends... I'll be back in Jersey to visit the family in late July. Too bad no one can get a west coast thing going.

Three hours, in which direction, towards Philly or Albany? ... and is it definitely going to be in NYC?

About 30 to 40 min south of Philly. I doubt anything is definite, yet.

Hopefully. Outside of NYC and my carless self might have a hard time making it
If people are coming from all over, barcade (although awesome) might not be a good bet, as it's out in Brooklyn, and a little less central then a place like D&B.
For general watering holes, I'm a fan of The Ginger Man, which has 66 draughts on tap, and most are $6, and none are bud, miller, or coors.

$6? I've spent $14 for an import in NYC before, but that was when gasoline was $1.79 a gallon. If it's in Brooklyn, I could take the train to the subway, and go right into Williamsburg (maybe I could even find the Cash Cab?).. hmm I may have to save some money for the trip down there, the place sounds awesome!

The barcade sounds cool to me. I am only a couple minuets from it. Unless you guys could think of something in the city.
Thanks for standin' still!

For a while, I thought by "Barcade" that you all were referring to a Bar that is also an arcade, which is what Dave & Buster's, our last meetup point was. Then I Googled it and found out it's an actual place, so i'm clear now. It sounds great and I approve of the wonderful On Tap list. It'd be perfect if it wasn't in Williamsburg.

I'm due for a re-drunkening.
I wish it were time for Cheers. But it's not. It's time for vengeance!
This Barcade place looks too working-class, and probably is. Dave & Buster's on Times Sq still looks like the ideal choice (apart from being situated in a very busy place).

The D&Bs near me are over-priced, really loud, and full of obnoxious costumers. That could just be Philly and Baltimore, though.

It's the same everywhere.
I'm in, as long as it fits w/ my schedule. I'm out in PA now though, so a little bit further to get in.
I love disappearing from the boards for months, only to come back in time for a local Slap & Tickle
I would have been pissed if I missed it.

I don't know exactly what that means... it's more hipster then anything. The neighborhood is definitely borderline sh*tty, but it's only a block from the subway to the bar.
It's not hard to get to, but it is an extra train ride for people coming from outside the city.
D&B seems like a good enough compromise between location and suitability, and is kind of the only major game themed place I know of in Manhattan.

Well I won't be making this one as I have no plans on being in the area this summer. Hope you all have as good a time this year as last.

Well, D&B's is the most central and probably would be easiest to get to for everyone, plus we get to see me cursing at horses. Also, while ludicrously overpriced, D&B makes you feel better about it by serving very large beers. I'll ask some friends about this Barcade place, see if I can get some opinions.
Also, how does roughly the same weekend as last time strike people? It'd be July 19th this time around.

I'd be up for this, whereever it ends up. (I for one like working-class bars ;p ... though i would be surprised if any such thing actually exists in williamsburg these days)
just as another option, ESPNZone is also on Times Square, and has no small number of video games to play. I'm not sure how it compares to D&B pricewise, but its certainly overpriced and probably equally so if not more. The place can be incredibly packed depending on whats going on sports wise on any particular day.

Can we have it after or, preferably, before July 19th?

I'd be interested since the Capitol one I tried to organize blew up weeks before it even was supposed to happen.
