AoC Servers - Tochus ayf Tisch

The subject line is a rude Yiddish phrase translating roughly as "let's get down to business". People are dribbling into the beta now. I got my key but won't be able to download till tomorrow. I will be ready to go, but I still won't have a clue what servers Goodjers are on! Not a single person has declared a server, that I have seen. I'm going PvE and I need a server. If I have heard a server from another Goodjer I'll use that one. If not, I'll pick one and let you know what it is. Somebody please do likewise for a PvP server.

We have a Poll thread for choosing the server. I'm sure the ones picked will be announced there.

We do, and I've read it. Thing is, we need server choices now. This is the time.

Um no... we still have time... Let people play their fill of open beta that way people will be more informed on what to expect.

Its clear to me that there will be no consensus. There are pretty serious divisions within the community about what will make this game fun. We'll be split pretty evenly at first between a basic PVE and a basic PVP server. Some small groups will roll on RP varieties of those. A likely situation is that the majority of folks who join based on word of mouth will join us on the PVE server but both will be very active in the beginning, so either will be a good choice for your main in the first month.

Turnover on a PVP server will be caused by frustration, and it's bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Turnover on a PVE server will be caused by boredom, and it will happen later rather than sooner.

After a few months we will probably have a smaller but tighter PVP guild with lots of alts from the PVE server (me included, I still want to try it out)

So really the only decision we have to make as a group is the name of the servers we want... and there are no server names yet. Once those come out we'll be able to decide on which for PVE, which for PVP, etc

We can't even choose a server yet. No names have been announced.

Don't you select a server, for the open beta?

Well, in the open beta you can only play part of the single player portion. So your server doesn't really matter.

I think they'll be some EU servers available, but the majority of us are in NA so that would be the most likely choice.

While you can play with other people at level 5 the odds are good that the bulk of your time will be in the single player part.

Open beta is the starting area which is MP/SP.

Only if you choose; however, it depends on how you play - oops said too much.

Dont think that much is a secret anymore. I will add that except for the Rogue archetype all the other classes can manage to stay in single player mode until 18-19.

Does the Rogue destiny quests take you out sooner? Or is there some necessary skill that's a quest reward in MP?

I don't necessarily want to group right away, but I don't want to play a single player game for 20 levels either.

I don't think that will be a problem for a new MMO, though.

On average most people will hit level 8-9 for the destiny quests. Move to daylight to do some quests to get to level 10. If you start right back at level 10 into the destiny quests you'll probably be 13-14 and have to go back to level up to 15. rinse/repeat at level 18.

You goto a different areas for the rogue destiny quests and they're not as many targets there. For the others if you killed every target you find you could get enough xp to not have to pop over to do daylight quests and play with others.

It may make sense to enumerate the basic types of servers that people will play on, and select one name per category. So that people who want to make characters on the same server as other goodjers, can. Whether be it RP-PVP, PVE, FFA-PVP, or anything else. People can even make multiple characters across the servers to facilitate GWJ guild numbers on the respective server types. Having one server name per server type as "official" would facilitate the split player base still sticking together.

Exactly and that's what we'll be doing as soon as they release the server names.

I suspect the OP was worried there would be the different server types for Open Beta and the way things are looking they'll just have multiple PVE servers.
