This is the thread to discuss Fallout 3. This is NOT the thread to talk about how Bethesda's Fallout 3 is an abomination that shouldn't be made. The time for that particular discussion is over and any attempt to resurrect it will be dealt with faster than that giant scorpion killed me in the original game.

Careful. You definitely don't want to incur the wrath of Certis' MASSIVE stinger.

I thought Certis' had proboscises.

Obviously, Certis has both. Didn't you get the memo and gene map?
Sheesh.

So who's read up on the character creation process? The whole being born, crawling around tutorial, and the growing up/ developing your character bit. Sounds like good stuff right? I'm certainly intrigued, and I appreciate the tone its sets for the game.

Yeah, I ended up reading the bit at 1up with Jeff Green and Shawn Elliot about that. It also sounds like a cool way to present a basic tutorial without resorting to something like amnesia. However, it also was where I realized I need to stop reading previews for this game before I ruin it for myself, barring anything that suggests a significant difference between the three versions that might change my mind on which one to get.

This game has me on all of the little things... I really like that children's book character creation process, as well as the idea that I get to influence how my father will appear...

Plus I want to set off a nuke. That's gonna be good.

A smaller but denser world than Oblivion... Good lord, where will the time come from?

I don't much care what Bethesda does with much of anything about the game. I've been a fan of the Elder Scrolls to the point that I bought my 360 specifically to play Oblivion. I recognize that Bethesda made a lot of mistakes with that game but would do the same in a second.

What gets me excited about F3 is comments like these from bit-tech: "I realised that Bethesda had absolutely nailed the tone of the series"

Fallout is all about the atmosphere. I'm picking up on release day.

What I really can't wait for is seeing what the mod community can do with this thing. If we're lucky it will provide an engine and a set of assets for tons of great post-apocalyptic games.

This is one of my hopes as well. I have been a longtime fan of the Bethesda RPG's but I think they really hit their stride with the Mod support built into Morrowind and Oblivion. My copies of those games barely resembled their original published forms when I got done with them. As long as they can get close to the post-apocalyptic tone of Fallout I will be pleased, but I am more excited to see what the Mod community will produce with the tools and assets that Fallout 3 will bring.

[/i]I'm excited.
Also, this italics thing is killing me.

How much of the being born thing do you get to see? *shudder*

Perhaps it will be similar to the Chestburster birth sequence from AVP 2?

I wonder if...

Crowning?
I demand crowning.

Probably the best place to catch up on everything is Qt3's nearly 50 page thread on the game:

http://www.quartertothree.com/game-t...

Devs, journalists who've played it, NMA groupies invading, etc. Sometime in the past few pages (in the mid-40s I think) somebody put up a comprehensive post of everything that's been shown thus far. Worth a skim for the Fallout fan.

Excellent find. Now if only my Fallout parents don't have the same reaction my real ones did, as in wondering if somebody in the hospital switched babies.

*runs off and cries*

Well for information only my place is better.

Here's something I didn't know about that makes me excited.

Thierry Nguyen, GameSpy: The first thing we noticed after the footage of the trailer (which is part of Fallout 3's overall intro) is that Fallout 3 is indeed in first-person. Howard explains, "If you're going to play this character and feel like you're in the world, nothing beats first-person." Howard does recognize that players played Oblivion in third-person view, and Fallout 3 has an improved third-person camera. In fact, not only is it perfectly playable from third-person, but you can zoom out the camera to make it almost isometric, in a nod to the previous two games.

Bethesda announces that Fallout 3 will be scored by composer Inon Zur.

They also released a few sample tracks. Listen to them here. I wasn't quite convinced by the main theme, it was a cool song but didn't really capture the Fallout sound. Then I listened to the Megaton theme and man, he nailed it. Haunting and unsettling. That's what Fallout sounds like!

Carrying this over from the other Fallout thread, I just wanted to mention that the music link only works if you've passed Fallout's age verification front-page. Mostly this is to relocate the discussion.

I personally don't get the vocal minority that's been saying that kinda crap. No game sequel ever lives up to anyones expectations, so why are they so damn... rabid about it?

I'm totally looking forward to Fallout 3 and could care less that it's not the original developers, that it's not using the "SPECIAL" system. Bethesda's got the spirit of the originals in mind and that's all I care about.

Not so much poking as just petting the bear... I really don't get how virulent the fanbase for this series is... it's just a freekin' game!

Heavy petting is not encouraged.

Ok ok, enough making fun of the blond Can we go back to how Fallout 3 is probably gonna kick major ass?

The Collectors edition comes in a lunch box for heavens sake AND comes with a bobble head! How can it possibly NOT rock?!

I have never played Fallout I'm going into this one blind.
