If you're able to find everything on zzf is there any downsides with using them over newegg?

Newegg has grown that i now have to pay sales tax. I'm pretty sure a couple years ago i didn't have to.

I can get the same things from ZZF minus the tax.

zzf is ok. Their prices are good, but their website sucks compared to Newegg's.

To me the one thing Zip held over Newegg was their free shipping deal. As soon as they ended that I stopped shopping with them because they consistently took longer to ship things than Newegg did.

I much prefer buying from ZZF, though I much prefer *browsing* newegg.
ZZF is *usually* cheaper and the free shipping was mentioned.
It's been a while since I bought anything from either place, but my default is to *find* it on NewEgg and buy it from ZZF.

But yeah, the ZZF site sucks if you don't know exactly what you're trying to find.

Neither ships to Canada so that kinda ruins the question for me. But I've heard of less problems and better specials with Newegg on the forums I visit then ZZF if that helps.

I usually do all my shopping on NewEgg then double check the price on ZZF. I prefer NewEgg, but haven't had any problems with ZZF.

Newegg is a great source of computer gear that has never done anything even remotely crappy to me. They deliver quickly, they honor their warranties promptly and without argument, and they advertise fairly -- that is, with the REAL price, and then the after-rebate price in smaller print. They do bundle and upsell, but they do it in a fair way -- the 'just buy my crap' button is on top, and they mention things I might like in addition below. I don't have to wade through anything I don't want to, but if I'm interested in related products, it's there as a resource.

They're just about perfect, in other words, and I'm happy to pay them a little more than other places. I use Froogle and ZZF as sanity checks, but I've yet to see anything wildly out of line on pricing with Newegg.

I use them both, but I'll often go with ZipZoomfly, because of the sales tax issue. Here in my little Tennessee town I get charged a face-punching 9.75% sales tax, which really jacks up the price.

I've found that ZipZoomfly is usually 1-2 days slower on the delivery than newegg to my location.

I don't really pay attention to that sort of thing. When I buy something tech, it's never a situation of "I need this in 3 days or else!"
And I saved about 10-15% when I built my machine a couple of years back by going with ZZF. I can give up a bit longer in shipping for 10% off.

ZZFs website is bad and sometimes their descriptions/pictures are off. I recently looked at a cooler master 460 watt psu that had a picture for one of the more expensive psu's in their lineup. I was going to buy it but then noticed that newegg had a different image as did numerous other places. I ended up buying something else but I'd have been pissed if it wasn't the item pictured. I have gotten things from there numerous times (ZZF) and so far haven't had any issues. If things are relatively equal, though, I'll buy from newegg.

Getting killed, though? In a way that you don't like? Suck it up, Gertrude.

That's what i'm looking at and it adds up to a hefty chunk that i'm hoping to avoid.

Shipping speed can be critical with new builds and return policies on DOA items. I like to make sure everything comes at about the same time so I can build and test within that critical return period on expensive items that don't return easily.

I'll pay a few more bucks to order from Newegg because they have a much better website. You want to support that.

AT the same time if ZZF is much cheaper I might go with them as you want to support competition too.

I'm with Malor, I've been using Newegg for as long as I've been wanting/window shopping computer hardware to begin with, and I've never had a problem. I'm not sure I can say that with any other retailer. Their site is great, their descriptions/pictures are accurate, the user reviews can be extremely helpful, and they've never f*cked me.

Worth a few extra bucks for peace of mind, and getting all my hardware in one shipment. Unless there's a huge difference in price, like $50, I go with Newegg, and when I haven't, I've sometimes regretted it (shipped slow, didn't work, etc.)

I go with newegg.com on all computer and other technology based (camera, laptop accessories etc.) purchases for many years now. I do it for three huge reasons.

1. They list all products cleanly, with detail and accurately. Prices are average and some places have cheaper prices but on the average newegg does not price gouge. Also generally their customer reviews on products are pretty informational.

2. They have an awesome RMA service that is equal to none. If a hardware piece shows up DOA the only effort is filling and printing out a form and shipping the product back to them. A huge plus with expensive hardware.

3. Their product is well packaged and shipped much faster. Even on the lowest shipping choice it still gets here in less than five days. I have overnighted only one product from them and it got to me in record time. Less than 24 hours. You can't beat that.

I have bought well over $5,000 of product from newegg over the years and I have yet to be disappointed with newegg itself. Now the manufactures of products sold through newegg is a different story but that's not newegg's fault.

I would interested in a comparison with TigerDirect however. I've looked at things on there before and have been tempted. Any opinions on tigerdirect.com ?

I have used ZipZoom, New Egg, TigerDirect, etc. They are all more or less the same. Though everyone seems to have their favorites. NewEgg tends to have more helpful product reviews. And you can generally tell with parts are the better ones to buy based on them.

But a store is a store, the experience is more or less homogeneous.

Only true if you don't have to return/rma something. If you do, Newegg owns Tigerdirect. I don't know about Zip.

Newegg all the way for me. Great web page, helpful reviews, quick shipping, competitive pricing, great customer service when needed. I may compare pricing just to be sure but Newegg almost always gets my business.

Newegg owns Tigerdirect? I'm not very clear about that. But i do want to recommend you the newegg coupons for buying newegg product at a big discount!

I am pissed about Newegg putting up the taxes here in NY to. I used to buy there all the time and I have been trying to find other solutions. I still go to newegg when I get something small but for things like LCD monitors the tax alone is going to be $50.

http://clubit.com has great prices but not nearly the selection of newegg.

Thanks for standin' still Wanker!
