Retro gaming - Tribes 2
A few weeks back Lobster posted about interest in Alien vs Predator 2 which was all that was needed to get me to reinstall. The offical GWJ night didn't seem to pull through but that hasn't stopped me from playing the crap out of AVP. For some reason when I turn on my computer I seem to gravitate toward playing it. It got me thinking the maybe I should go back and revisit some of my old favorites and give them a whirl. Tribes2 still resides on my hard drive so I booted it up just to see if anyone is still playing it. It seems that despite Vivendi's struggle to kill T2 it still gets its fair share of players. I forgot how hard this game is. Even though I'm incredibly rusty I had a great time. I guess it's my turn to see if anyone wants to play T2, a game so ahead of its time it's still playable today. Any takers?

Well, you know I will.
Wreck would also... Anyone else?!
I've got your numbers, I got all your numbers!
When T2 initially came out it was a fantastic game. Then through a series of mind boggling moves they nerfed it almost to the point of unplayability. Damn I loved playing a defensive heavy in that game.
That said, I'm not ever sure I have the disks anymore
I loved Tribes. I haven't played in ages and I'm not sure I have the disks, but if you guys schedule something I'll hunt them down.

I still have my discs kicking around. Tribes 2 was a little too inaccessible for most and required a beast of a system at launch, but it'd be damn fun to get a game going.
You can't do this!

Did they not come out with a free to download version of Tribes two?

Just tries 1 Pharacon. Tribes 2 is still for sale for like 4 bucks on most budget game whirly-metal-standy-things.

Ahh, I used to play Tribes religiously. I must hunt down my disc.

I think I might of gotten a key during that time when it became free. But god, what email address was I using at that time?

Is there anywhere that I can buy this online digitally?
Has anyone checked out some of the fan made successors like Legends or Ascension?

I would absolutely rock some Tribes 2.
I don't think so. You can purchase a new copy off ebay for around four bucks.

Tribes 2 may just be my favorite FPS ever. Being a sniper in that game was so fun

I found my disk, installed, and when I went to play it, it gives me an "unhandled exception."
Lovely.
LOVED Tribes 2. I might have to pick it up if enough Goodjers are in for this.

I need to dig in further. The controls do not feel quite right. I am wondering if the performance increase since this game was released has caused some unwarranted consequences.

I found my CD and I'm up and running!
I remember I was never able to enjoy the game properly because it performed so poorly on my PC back then. If you guys set up a day to play, let me know! I suck horribly though...

Just how did you accomplish this? Did you use the SierraUploader. I patched by downloading incremental patches from fileplanet. Since I did this Sierraupdater screwed up the T2 launcher. I found a fix by loading Panama Jack's script pack but it was touch and go for a while.
The game still feels the same to me only it plays better. Might have been the skill of the other players. People still playing this game seem to have never left it. They are insanely good.
EDIT: I never thought so many people would be up for this. I guess we should start talking about what night we want to play. I need to look at the events calendar to try and figure out what night would be best. Any suggestions?

I always considered myself a "decent" FPS player, since that was my favorite genre (until I got bit by the MMO trend!). But on Tribes, it seems that all my FPS knowledge from years playing Quake/QW almost professionally is worth nothing! Action is so fast and getting used to the game's physics and the Jet Pack deal is damn hard, specially when you are playing against those people that play the game for years!
I played 4 matches early on today and I got my ass kicked left and right. My second match I finished it with only 2 kills, where one of them was a really lucky one. I love the game though!

I am ready to go Indignant, lets play!....boy the game brings back memories

That is correct. I let the updater update itself, then it took care of tribes. I did however have misgivings about letting the Sierra app run at all.

I think a few of us have the exact opposite experience. I miss having the right-click for jetting. When I first started playing UT, Quake and all the rest, there was always that moment of "Uh-oh, I can't jump up and over to avoid splash damage"...
I will dig out my disc, if I am really lucky- I'll be able to find my CD key.
I've got your numbers, I got all your numbers!
OK we need to pick a night. I have no idea what everyone else is playing on what nights so lets discuss what's best for everyone.
Wiggum, didn't you get a key emailed to you?

Ok I think I'm going to throw out Wednesday of next week to give T2 a try. Discuss.
