The New EA: In which I pimp myself.

Because, well, there's no magazine for anyone to read it in anymore, I thought I'd flog the piece I wrote for the unpublished final issue of Games for Windows Magazine. It's over here at 1up.com.

I was quite pleased with it at the time. Somehow it doesn't seem the same when it's not in my mailbox. I continue to have high hopes for Green & Co. and have high hopes for something amazing any time now.

... really.

Any time now. I can wait. Sigh.

That was very insightful, great article! Such a shame it didn't make it in the final GFW, but it's still appreciated.

I absolutely love that article. John Riccitiello sounds like a very interesting guy, and I really like the direction EA has been heading in lately, minus wanting to nickel and dime people to death on all of their games.

Good article, rabbit. It's interesting to see just how far EA is willing to go in order to foster greater innovation and invest in long-term success.

Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

Very well written article. While I am one to jump on the EA-hate bandwagon, I've tried taking a different approach to how I view the company now. Its nice to read something like this that gives me faith that maybe they are actually trying to change. But I guess its still a little too early to tell if it is actually working.

I find it funny how the page's browser title is "The New EA: EA's Quest To Protect Innovation from 1UP.com", as if their innovation is threatened by 1UP.

Reading article now...

What did you mean on page two, under "To thine own self be true"?

In the developer community this conventional wisdom is so axiomatic that some developers will do anything to stay small and private (see sidebar).

What was in the sidebar?

edit: I actually just finished it and saw the bottom part there, I assume that's what it was.

Great article.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Nice to get stuff out into the ether. At least this time I didn't have to wait 6 months.

Thanks for the article rabbit.

I like how you compared EA and Take2. Especially the parts you got from the Civ 4 designer.

As with all your GFW articles, it just goes to show, well done journalistic articles can happen in games.
