$3000 in hail damage

Got my estimate yesterday after the massive and ridiculous hailstorms we had two weeks ago.

I actually felt physically ill, like I was going to throw up. On one hand, I'm thankful that the insurance company is paying for it. However, I love my car. It's not great, it's not fancy, but it's mine. Essentially, every surface on the car had damage. It almost felt like someone had vandalized my car. I can't quite describe why it bothered me so much even though I'm not going to be out of pocket on the repairs.

It's a 2006 Suzuki Forenza and I payed all of $10,000 for it. They just told me that it's going to cost a third of what I paid for it to get it fixed.

Both of my brothers and I have each had cars totaled from hail damage. With mine, they paid off the loan, and gave the the difference, and I got to keep the car. So I ended driving a crater ridden car for awhile, but Io saved a bunch of cash to buy another car later.

If you walk through parking lots in Kansas, you will be surprised to see how many hail damaged cars are out there. Three grand sounds like you got off cheap.

Just slap a "I just got back from Irak" sticker on it and a bunch of flags. It'll be good for picking up girls too.

This is why I'm extremely grateful I have a garage, we're no strangers to hail in WI. Since you've already got the damage it won't help, but I've found when not in a garage that putting a thick king-sized blanket and then a elastic-banded car cover over your car before the storm (if you can) will cut down on any hail damage you might receive. Works for everything but the golf-ball sized stuff anyway.

If it was like it was here when we had our massive hail storm you'll be able to buy new cars with hail damage at a great discount. While they do have damage some of them you can barely see it.

Yeah, I saw quite few of those hail damaged sales while I still lived in KC and Lawrence. And you are right about the damage most of the time. Give it one hot summer, and the dents smooth out quite a bit. My car never smoothed out. There were some serious craters, and craziest crack in the windshield. It hit right in the middle, which caused a circular crack about the size of a basketball.

My dad had all the siding replaced on his house a few years ago due to hail damage, luckily that also was paid by insurance. Oddly, both their cars survived that storm...

We had a Forenza for a week as a rental last year, my husband loved that car.

I should get points for admitting he's my brother...

Part of a chimney landed in my backyard during that storm.

I *wish* I was kidding.

That was of course, minor when adding roof damage, water damage and broken windows.

Yet, I managed to sleep through the entire storm. Go figure.

Really? Because it sounded like the cast of Riverdance was on my roof.

I slept through it as well. While we didn't have any damage, houses just a couple of blocks over had fences blown down and trees uprooted.

Reminds me of a nasty storm we had when I was in high school. I was home alone sleeping on the couch and the next thing I know I wake up the next morning only to find A) our 96 ft barn was flattened sideways, B) Every nail in our house roof was missing (they figured the storm lifted the roof and then dropped it back), C) Our trampoline was a mile down the road, D) there were multiple downdraft caused 100yd circular patches of the local forest just leveled toothpick style, and E) our four 50' cedar trees were laid down at a 15 degree angle (considering they were 10-15ft from the house it's a miracle they folded around the house, not into it).

And I slept through the whole damned thing... figures. But hey, at least it didn't so much as scratch my car

Yeah, and I was in my car when the hail storm that totalled my car hit. It scared the crap out of me. I pulled over and tried to get in the center of the car because they were hitting so hard I was sure the windshield was going to cave in. It was like someone throwing big rocks at your car really fast, and it went on for like 10 minutes.

Well, considering that a medium to large piece of hail travels anywhere from 70-120 mph I'd say yeah, they were probably hitting "really fast".

I slept through the building next door (separated by a parking lot) burning down several years ago. It was a 4-Alarm fire too.
