Fill in the info slots and there is a free book offered each week, along with some free wallpapers.
The wallpapers this week should make any Robert Jordan fans here happy, as they are the cover art from "The Dragon reborn" and the Snake-Wheel design.
edit: modified title to make the electronic nature of the books more apparent.
"Also, I have four legs and am covered in wool. Baa!" *Legion* reveals his inner furry.

Is this free book as in an ebook, or an actual physical paper object?
EDIT: Nevermind, read the link. Of course it would be digital.

I have put the second pic as my background. Have to start that series all over again, with the new additions.
Great link! Also subscribed to that site. Will see how this keeps up.

It's PDF files, so kind of a pain to put on an actual eReader like a Sony PRS or Kindle.
PDF, html or Mobi are the format it offers.

Kindle can natively take Mobi, and you can use BookDesigner (software is in english) to convert html to a Sony PRS .lrf file.
You can also use Mobipocket Creator to convert pdf to .mobi if that floats your boat.
As a Sony Reader owner, I find myself converting many free and drm-free purchased books using BookDesigner. It's tricky, but if you run through the tutorial you'll see the power it actually has.

I've been grabbing these since they started the program and putting them on my Kindle. The very first book (can't recall the title) was only available in PDF form and then tons of folks sent feedback asking for other formats, so they added html and Mobi.
I've read Old Man's War and Spin out the lot and really enjoyed both. They'll be getting money for other works by these authors now that I've tried them. I guess their nefarious plan worked.
The wallpapers each week are excellent gravy to an already great offer.

Anyone know how long it takes to get the email? I haven't received anything yet.

Unfortunately anybody jumping on at this point missed out on the majority; they've released ten and only have two more to go. I read Spin and Old Man's War (both excellent), the others were mostly fantasy with a couple of alternate history novels in there. I read the fourth one, Darkness Rising, but it was pretty bad derivative fantasy.
I believe every single book they've released so far has either had sequels or been part of a series; I'm willing to bet the event they're ramping up for is an e-books store where you can buy the rest.
They send out the weekly book every Friday, you should get the link then.

Thanks for the links, Nosferatu! Downloading the PDF for "Old Man's War" worked perfectly.
I also recommend downloading "Mistborn" by Brian Sanderson for any fantasy fans. He makes good on the promise he shown with "Elantris" and then some.
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

All of the free ebooks are available again at the new TOR site. I have to say they are doing a really cool blog with a ton of content in addition.
I highly recommend checking it out: http://www.tor.com/
BTW - the free books end on 07/27 so get them while they are hot. Love having free content for my Kindle but any ebook reader will work with these:

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade...
Yep, I saw that yesterday and grabbed them all. I have a big backlog but I will get to them, someday.
Oh, this was a great, great promotion - the pdf ebooks were the perfect remedy to inevitable downtime in my particular workplace. That, and I'll never turn down free books. The problem, of course, is that I'm running out and picking up all the subsequent books in the series they tease me with; I've really enjoyed John Scalzi's and Brandon Sanderson's other work.
Also, it helped me pad out my own personal project, chuck's year in books.
