No, they're not forum posts. Not even technologically anymore since the update. And there's more going on under the hood than you know. Read the information at the link they gave you above and contact Certis or Elysium.

Care to chime in on this Certis? I was under the impression that the front page just displayed promoted articles from a restricted user access forum. This no longer the case?

Correct. It used to be you made a "Story" style post in the Front Page section and then pushed it. Now the content is made separately from the forums. Jeff actually had to hack something together so we could still have our Front Page forum section, you just select which forum section you want the story to appear in when you're making the post.
