Watch out Cancun, here I come!

I think I'm still in shock. After 4 years of not going on vacation (Due to a couple years being single), I just booked a vacation to Cancun! I don't get to go until August which kinda stinks because that means I won't stop smiling until then

I am going to be staying at The Royal In Cancun http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?&&qscr=dspv&htid=1635542&crti=0&rdct=1&zz=1208613816453&. So outside of my "Woohoo" type thread, I'm also curious if anyone has ever stayed there and what they thought of it. Also I need to find out what, if anything, there is to do around the resort. All-inclusive is going to rock, especially the free booze!! We (me and GF) are going to be staying in a Royal Oceanfront room, 652 sq ft!

Hey congratulations on the trip. I've never been to Cancun and live very far from there so I don't have any kind of advice, but if you find you need something to translate just drop me a line.

The wife and I just got back from Cancun a couple weeks ago, we had an awesome time. Feel free to check out my thread on the subject here. Here's my brief report on our stay. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, since the whole trip is still real fresh in my mind.

Well, we're back!

I've gotta say that was about the best damned two weeks of my life. The golden Parnassus resort was just great. everyone there went out of their way to make sure we had a good time, and plenty of tequila. This was my first time to an all-inclusive, and it definitely won't be the last. I think a big part of the fun of the vacation was because we chose an adults-only resort. Now, I like kids just fine and all, but after walking down the beach past some of the other resorts that seemed to have 12:1 kid to adult ratio... well... I was thanking the lord for our resort.

Anyway, while we were there we went to a couple of the tourist attractions, including Xcaret, which was great, though a very long day. We also went to Selvatica, which is a jungle zip-line tour, followed by mountain-biking to a natural sinkhole fed by an underground river. We had a blast there.

The highlight of the trip for me was the scuba diving. I went twice on difference parts of the reef just off of Cancun, and then twice more in Cozumel. I've got some (hopefully) great underwater shots that are waiting to be developed. I'll be sure to post some here when they are.

So, all in all a wonderful vacation. I can't wait to go back, maybe to vacation again, or maybe on a permenant basis once that last kid is off to college.

Thanks everyone again for all the advice, it worked out great!

A couple of things that just came to mind; be sure to check out the coco bongo club, it's a blast. Also, make sure you hit Cozumel for a day, especially if you like shopping.

Also, all our water sports were done through AquaWorld. The guys there were really awesome and I can't recommend them enough. If you have any interest in it at all, be sure to go scuba diving at least once, the reef in Cancun isn't far away at all, and it'll only take half a day from start to finish.

Wow Ser, great post and some awesome information! I can't say that I'm real big into scuba diving but would always give it a shot.

I never saw the followup post from you showing pics from the trip, would love to check them out if you have them online. I tend to trust pictures taken by real people rather than the ones the resort snapped. From what everyone has told me, we are going to have a blast. I'm also very happy (after reading your post) that we also decided to go with an adults-only resort.

Well, I've been putting off uploading the photos cause I'm lazy, but you've motivated me. Here are the albums.

Cancun Photos. Photos 37 to 147 were all taken at Xcaret.

Scuba Photos. Taken with some cheap disposible cameras. Next time I'll be buying the underwater case for my good camera.

If you're at all interested, what I did was I paid $80 for the training and one-tank dive on the Cancun reef. The deal was, if after the training I decided I didn't like it, they would refund $50 of the price and cancel the rest of the dive. That was a deal through my hotel, maybe yours would have something similar. The training itself was down right in the hotel pool.

Great pics Ser! Just one question though, what SPF sunscreen was the guy in the back wearing in the 12th picture? Because whatever level he used, I want to make sure I up it at least two-fold

Hehe, no idea, we just met him that night. Let me tell you though, the wife and I were wearing SPF 50 the whole time, and we came back with great tans. Do not skimp on the sunscreen, the sun is nasty down there.

Also, going to the tanning salon for a couple weeks before you go isn't a bad idea either.
