*Updated* GenCon Indy 2008: Slap and Tickle-opolypse
Friday, April 18th, 2008 - 11:30pm
Sir Rockford and myself have secured a room. I felt a rumbling in the boards of late and thought this would be a good time to start a thread.
Who is heading into Indianapolis for GenCon 2008?
Who is thinking about heading in?
Who has a room?
Who needs a room? A roomate?....
Update: Friday Aug 16th 6/7ish will be a dinner. If you will be attending please post and I'll add you here so we can find room enough for the lot of us.
As of 6/25 we are these many;
Rabbit
Certis
Elysium
Brennil
Gaald
TheWanderer
SirRockford
bnpederson
McChuck
ubrakto
Montalban
wordsmythe
E Hunnie
Pyroman[FO]
Thinking of attending an event at GenCon other than the GWJ dinner? See this thread.

Right now it's looking like Elysium, Gaald, Rob and my lovely wife will be staying in the same hotel King rabbit is residing. We're full up.
What am I looking forward to? rabhattans.
Yeah, it's scary. I'm staring into the abyss right now, and it's staring into me, which I think is kind of a dick move on the abyss's part. - Nyles
I had to get a room with this guy named The Wanderer... whatever.
I'm looking forward to meeting the cast of The Conference Call in person. Well, I guess I'll be meeting Gaald for a 2nd time, Wizard World '07 was the first time.

Kat and I will be there. Not sure yet what the rooming situation is.

I'll be there in some way, shape or form. I am determined to spend more time than I did last year, which was just to drive up for the dinner and a couple hours of board games afterward. But I'm not sure at this point. I'll at least be at the goodjer S&T.

I am coming to GenCon Indy this year. I have a room at some hotel near the convention center, can't recall the name at the moment, it's a single that consists of me, myself, and I. I have no idea what I'm looking forward to, other than I'm kinda hoping to try out D&D 4.0 ruleset if it's out by then. My hotel room may have a plasma TV but my exierience with hotels is that they lock down the ability to switch inputs so you can't play games on them or watch DVDs and instead have to go through their pay services.
Remember, only by treating everyone with dignity and respect can we maintain the element of surprise for that inevitable day when we wipe our enemies from the face of the Earth.
Ill be organizing the actual social events as we get much closer.
We're full up on rooms at the moment (I have you DS and you Kat, you've got an actual bed an actual door and I believe an actual bathroom).
I have no suggestions on hotels at this point. I assume everything is full up within walking distance.

And a rabhattan with a mickey in it.
Rocky and I will be at the Hyatt Place Indianapolis Airport. Seems a decent place, free wireless, plasma tvs, and a little lounge area in the room. Rocky is a little upset. He doesn't think the hookers will like it. Really, they're pretty understanding.
If other GWJers end up there or nearby we could carpool over to the convention center and avoid a possible parking hassle.
And yes, everything is filled up within walking distance and then some.

If everything within walking is booked, I might as well stay at a friend's. Oh well.

I'm on the fence; I've wanted to up to Gencon since I was 12, back in the Lake Geneva days. Getting there for the release of 4th edition seems right, somehow. Just have to secure a hotel room nearer than Ohio.

I'm going for the first time this year. Are there any things that I really have to make sure and see or do? Any cool events going on?

I'm going to be there and crashing on my cousin's couch, so no room necessary for me.
However I will be requiring some rabhattans
I also think I'm going to be going the full 4 days instead of just the weekend this year.

I'll be there, possibly with family. I was waiting on them to get their collective act together, but I should probably just go ahead and grab a room. I'm game for carpooling from the airport Hyatt.

I have a group of friends who pretty consistently hit up GenCon. I'll see what their plans are. I would most certainly like to meet up with The Great Goodjer Collective (unless wordsmythe is there, his face makes my soul weep).

I would like to go... But I would have to come alone, as the only friend I could possibly get to come with me is using up all of his vacation for this year AND next for his wedding and honeymoon. It just seems a little pathetic to me to come to something like this alone... Even if I would meet a bunch of goodjers there.
Convince me.

I went to GenCon alone last year and had a great time. Also, if you're by yourself and stuck in a bad demo or sales pitch you can say your friend is waiting for you and you need to leave.

I went by myself too, though I had met several of these guys before socializing and finding new friends is one of the best parts of GenCon.

Man, I need to go to this. My 13-year old son would eat it up, and we only live about 40 miles from Indy.
I just booked our hotel at Hyatt, so we will be near Rocky and Wanderer. Woo!

Not sure how much of GenCon I'll be at this year; hopefully more than last year's fat lot 'o 'noth'n. Of course, even if I'd made it to the show, the S&T would've still been the best part for me. I'll definitely drive down for that.

Alright, it's been a while since there's been some action on this thread.
I've got to say, as a GenCon virgin their site is a little daunting. What should I be trying to do while I'm there? What should I be singing up for? Anything?

smythe started a thread in Games, I think, along the lines of your question. To repeat what I said there, I don't think I'm signing up for anything. Maybe True Dungeon and maybe a Zombies event. Other than that, I got a 4 day pass.
