Back to the Big Easy
Today I gave notice at my current job that I will be resigning in two weeks. I will be moving back to New Orleans to work as an engineer at a nuclear power plant in the area.
I'm excited to be returning to a place that I love dearly, and have missed very much since I've been gone. August 26th, 2005 was the last night I spent in my home in New Orleans. Katrina hit, my job relocated me to Jackson, MS. After 6 months in Jackson, we decided to relocate. I took a job in Little Rock, AR, and have been here since early 2006. My wife has not been happy with her job for a while, but has been unable to find any new work in her field here in Little Rock.
So, I started looking for new jobs, and came across an opportunity back home. I interviewed 2 weeks ago, got the offer last week, accepted the offer, and turned in my resignation today. I start the new job on May 19th.
Right now, the only x-factor is selling our house here in Little Rock. We've got a few projects we want to finish before we list the house, and I'm hoping I can finish most of those in the next 4 weeks, before I start my new job.
All in all, I'm stoked to be headed back home, looking forward to learning a new job and new skills.

Why not move somewhere that isn't going to sink?
Though I guess if you're working at a nuclear plant, a sinking city is a good idea. Even if everything goes to hell the fuel rods will still be covered with enough water to keep them cool.
I'd imagine a repeat of Chernobyl in Nawlins wouldn't be fixed with a few FEMA trailers.

Congrats on moving back home and the new job.

Which plant will you be working? That's Entergy's domain, is it not? My father worked with them for 20-some odd years up in Jackson, MS.
Congrats Ben!
I'm glad to hear you're finally able to go back. Have you found a place yet? And how will this affect the Beer For Ben Crusade?
Enjoy some beignets and a cafe au lait for me, you lucky SOB.

My Website v. 3.0
This will put a temporary hold on Beer For Ben, until I can get established in the NO. After that, it will be a reset of the adventure to start at another bar in New Orleans (the Bulldog, most likely).
I'll be working for Entergy at Waterford 3.

Hey wow, Waterford 3! As a kid, my elementary school was plastered with posters showing evacuation routes in case Waterford 3 were to go all Black Mesa on us. If I ever write a novel, I think I'll title it Waterford 3.
Good news, Ben. And speaking of beer and New Orleans, a friend of mine runs this site, which is worth adding to your RSS feed. He's a big Bulldog fan, too.

Thanks for the tip Lobo, but I'm way ahead of you on that one. A friend of mine turned me on to the site about a month ago. Good stuff!

I'm so glad to hear about someone going -back- to New Orleans. The sea lions are finally back at the zoo, too. So, you repatriate in good company. I've been gone almost 9 months now. I miss it.

When you find a new tavern to start your beer thing up I will buy you a good few beers. Just make sure and post here when you restart it up.
