UT3 Coming to the 360 this summer...but without Mod support
I am a sad gamer.

What makes Unreal Tournament so amazing is that the Mod community is really talented, and comes up with great things like Damnation, Air Buccaneers, and Red Orchestra that otherwise would not have been made.
While my PC can kinda-sorta play UT3, I was really waiting for the 360 version, and now we find out that it is going to ship without Mod support. That's a major blow to the franchise to my mind.
Maybe, if we are lucky, Epic will post some approved Mods up on XBLA for purchase, but basically, Epic is conceding that the 360 is a closed system, and is tailoring the game to that.
360 owners will get some custom content, all the official maps to that point, co-op play, and that's it.
I will be there on release day, with my $60 in hand, but I won't be happy about it.

Although I understand Microsoft's reason for no mods... but as a gamer, I still think this blows. I was also holding out for Xbox 360 version but at this point I might as well skip it.

Not to be a real downer or anything, but my retail sense says this will tank on the 360 too. I'm guessing Epic is going for one last hurrah on this title and didn't really push to get mod support on XBL. If they thought they had a million unit seller, they'd have figured a way to get MS to support mods.
Xbox Live | Steam | Last.fm
It's interesting that MS supports the indie guys with XNA and the community games features, but stands so adamantly against user made content as an add-on for a commercial title. It seems difficult to reconcile these different approaches logically, and makes me wonder if two unrelated groups are calling the shots in these two areas.

Dude, pick up an ATI 3870 HD. The lack of free and user made content on the Xbox is reason enough(if 50 bucks a year for peer to peer gaming was not enough).
Let the great GWJ community hook you up.
The Gamespy server browser in the PC version of UT3 is more than enough reason to pass on mods and go with the 360 version. It really is an abomination. I burned an entire evening trying to get a co-op game up and running over the Internet with a friend of mine, who also happens to be a network admin. We failed. We got it working a few days later, but only hosting a public game would work properly so we had random pubtards hopping in and out of our co-op campaign all night long.
It pissed me right the f*ck off.
Funny how that kind of sh*t doesn't happen with LIVE's $50-a-year peer to peer gaming.

OK, Change of plan. Go to the PC, and get TF2.
You can always pick up the still great (if not somewhat diminished in terms of mode variety at this point) Unreal 2004 on Steam for cheap, and have a good time with Onslaught and the excellent CTF.
Make mine a Manwich!
Their reasoning is 100% bullsh*t. I can go on Live and get called a n*gger-c*nt-f*cker, but I can't download a mod? Idiots. Just put a disclaimer "Microsoft takes no responsibility" blah blah blah. It's just a bunch of pussy lawyers terrified of frivolous lawsuits. Their next console had better make inroads on this, or they're handing Sony a big advantage.

I don't think it's the responsibility part, it's the
lack of input they have with content and themoney that could be made with map downloads.XBox Live:MaxShrek ..VexilumCaptus. 'I've made contact with the three American Surrealists: Harpo Marx, Disney, and Cecil B. DeMill'- S.Dali
I'm looking forward to trying this with Live. I rented the PS3 version back when it came out and was pleased to find that it plays essentially like UT2K4 with freshly upgraded graphics and some new gizmos. This is one of the few run-n-gun FPS games that I really enjoy.
The lack of mod support is somewhat disappointing, but I'm sure we'll be seeing some "best of" packs in the future. If they're good enough and the game has legs, I'll get them.

Posted today by Joystiq: "We found out yesterday that the Xbox 360 version will feature five "exclusive" maps, split screen capabilities and two new characters. Today we can add that there will also be an all-new Warfare mode."
The lack of mod support doesn't really bother me. Maybe because personally I'm not really interested in moding. If you are some one who loves to make mods you do have the option on the PC. As for the 360, it would be a bonus to be able to add new mod levels but the game is suppose to ship with over 40 maps and 7 modes. I think that's enough to keep everyone happy for a while.
XBL/PS3:CyberTrick Always looking for fun people to play with, feel free to add me.
Mark Rein (President at Epic) says there will be a "Gears 2 related suprise" on the UT3 disk . Hmm....

Less chatter more splatter!
If you want Mods then PC is really the only place to go. Why do people expect full fledged, or any mods at all on consoles?
Thanks for standin' still Wanker!
